he moved. His life and example
breathes an odor of sweet fragrance to
his brethren of the square and com
pass, and its influence will long linger
in the lodge room where his name is
enrolled, and where his attractive and
kindly face was so often seen. His
life and work may be summarized in
“I meet upon the level, and I part up
on the square.”
‘‘Let us meet upon the level there, while
laboring patient here.
Let U9 meet and let us labor, tho’ the labor
seem severe;
Already in the Western sky, the signs but
us prepare
To gather up our working tools, and part
upon the square/’
“We shall meet upon the level there, but
never thence depart,
There’s a mansion—’tis all ready for each
zealous faithful heart,
There’s a mansion and a welcome, and a
multitude is there,
Who have met upon the level and been tried
upon the square,”
Be it, therefore,
Resolved, That the hcartlelt sym
pathy of each and every member of
this lodge is extended to the family of
our deceased brother, and wc pray
that the God of the widowed and
fatherless may comfort them in their
sad affliction, That these resolutions
be spread upon the minutes, and
page be dedicated to his memory,
That a copy be furnished the city
paper for publication, mid a copy bo
sent the family.

Resolutions Adopted by St.
Thomas Lodge on the death
of Robert B. Mardre.
T" Ilf Worshipful Matter, Wardens aiul
Jlretlimi <>f St. Tlionns Lodge, No.
10, /•’. <(• A. .V.
The committee appointed to pre
pare resolutions upon the death of our
esteemed friend and faithful brother,
beg leave to submit the folio ving:
Robert Burton Mnrdre was born iu
Jefferson county, Fla., on the 27th
day of November, 1837,
At the age of 25 he connected him
self witli Groovervillc Lodge,in Brooks
pimply, am] for 28 years he kept the
fajth, mid gloriously exemplified the
principles of tiic order hy the surpass
ing beauty of his life, and the purity
of his conduct.
lie was chosen to preside over this
lodge ns its Master, when the same was
re-instituted four years ago, and was,
at the time of his death, its honored
Senior Deacon. He was ever prompt
in his attendance upon its sessions,
loving to “meet with us upon the lev.
pi,” and nothing hut sickuess in big
nunily caused lus chair in he vacant.
\i a man ho was conscientious, pa*
tlcnt, kind and charitable. As a citi
zen, (rue and patriotic. As a magis
trate, impartial, just and incorruptible.
As a friend, pre-eminent in his loyalty
and fidelity. But his virtues shone
most resplendent in the family circle,
where he was idolized as the kind sym
pathetic father, and the devoted and
ufleetjonate husband to the wife, who
for so many years has been an invalid,
ft teems to us that lie was well nigh
perfect in overy sphere of life in whioh
Philadelphia capitalists have made
a liberal offer to the people of Tnlla
hasscc and between here and Thom
asville.
The required amount to build the
road from Tallahassee to Tbomasville
is 8500,000.
These capitalists offer that if the
people along the route will subscribe
to 850,000 of the stock aud secure tho
free right of way from the north
boundary line of Tallnhnsses to the
Georgia lino, they will put up the
other 8450,000, build the road at once
and operate it.
On the strength of this offer, which
is genuine ana made by men who
mean business, tho Tallahassee North
cm railway company has filed articles
of incorporation with the Secretary of
State, and voluntary subscriptions
amounting to about* 810,000 have
been taken already.
Books arc now open at the bank of
G. W. Saxon & Co , and every citi
zen along the route is urgently reques-
cd to call upon thorn aud Subscribe.
Don’t wait to be called upon, but net
at once aud let us secure this much
needed road.
The gentlemen who make the offer
are anxious that work should begin
on the road early in the full, and they
will have an engineer in the field
within ten days alter all the stock is
taken.
Hnnd in your name to Mr. Saxon
at once. Talk to him and be convin
ced that there is to he no dallying
about building the road.
The building of this road would be
of almost inestimable benefit to the
country between here and Thomas
ville.
Look how it would develop the
fruit and truck business.
It would give reduced rates of
freight to the northern markets.
The short line road from Monti
ocllo to Thomasville is now carrying
about fifteen carloads ot melons every
day.
This road would give the farmers
of north Leon a chance to ship as
many or more and at low through
rates.
A careful eqtisticiap of Tallahas
see has figured that tho people of
Leon county would save by tho re
duced freight rates, on Le Conte pears
alone, fully 880,000 for the five years
immediately succeeding tho comple
tion of this road, to say nothing of
cotton shipments and the forwarding
tomatoes, grapes, egg plants and
all kinds of garden truck and farm
produce—it being generally conceded
that the building of the road would
greatly stimulate the growing of stuff
lor market
We hope that opr people tyijl sqb- '’ u
scribe ffeply, and that ia aar next
issue wo may have tho ploasuro of
printing tho comnlctc list of subscri
bers.—Floridian, Tallahassee.
Tho road will meet the Augusta
road, thus giving almost a through
air line to New York and the Eastern
cities. Thomasville and Thowaj
county will cordially co operate in the
matter.
Wc hope our Tallahassee aud Leon
couuty friends will push the cqtor-
prjsc. Jt woqld lie \yorfh q great (jeql
to Tallahassee, and in fact to every
property owner in Leon comity.
An Important Notice.
Capt. R. P. Doss, chairman ot the
Democratic Executive Committee of
the county, issues an order this morn
ing that will be of interest to voters.
Under the ruling of the committee,
only registered. voters will he allowed
to participate in the primary election
next Friday, Tho committee also
rules that voters must east their bal
lots in the district where they are reg
istered. This is a provision of the
state law governing general elections,
and while it may appear to work some
hardship to voters, it is, perhaps, the
best way to secure a fair expression of
tho opinions of the democratic party,
