Sugar cane, ns n rule, is promising.
Mr. wTF. Gay, of Albany, was in
the city yesterday.
Bat shooting is a favorite afternoon
apart with the boys.
Mr. C. B. Townsend, the Sta idnrd
Oil man, was in town yesterday.
Several parlies made their last ship
ments of pears for the season to-day.
Mrs. A. L Hawes, of Bainbridge,
was registered at the Gulf yesterday.
Mr. L. F. Burkett, of the CL,*
B. Ry., was in the city yesterday at
the Gulf.
Mr. J H McRae and son,of Green
ville, Fla., were visitors" in the city
yesterday.
Several parties will probably go
down to St. Teresa during to day or
to-mdrrow.
Herbert Brandon, formerly with
John West, is now with R. U. Evans
in the insurance business.
While the melon season is over with
us, the scone of action has been trans
ferred to Sooth Carolina.
Mrs Geo. W. Henderson and child
ren, and Miss Henderson, left yester
day morning for Atlanta, to visit
friends.
Mr. Charley Beggs, of Boston, was
in the city several hours yesterday,
shaking hands with friends. He re
ports Boston on a boom.
Messrs, G M Watson and T. S.
Cole, of Ochlocknnec, were in the city
yesterday ; the gentlemen arc engaged
in the turpentine business around
Ochlocknuee.
Mf. I*. D. Headloy and family, of
Kissimmee, Fla., arc among the latest
additions to the population of our city.
Mr. Headley has opened a curiosity
store ih Fleisher’s barber shop, and
displays some interesting samples.
In our notice yesterday of the dele
gates to the State Agricultural Con
vention ! from Thomas couuty who
woufd probably attend, the name of
Prof. A Q. Moody was unintentional
ly omitted.
Mr. W. B. Gunby, a former Thom-
asrillc boy, but now a prosperous
merchant of Brunswick, was in the
city yesterday looking up old ac
quaintances. He and Mrs. Gunby
ore just back from a most delightful
visit to Tallulah Falls.
M. M. Blanton, of Moultrie, was in
the city yesterday. He reports poli
tics as interesting in Colquitt, but no
kicking against the regular nominees
of the party. But the democrats of
Colquitt county are always true to
their colors.
Would it not lie well for the farm
ers to give attention to the saving of
hay? Most of the melon fields might
bo mode profitable in this way. The
rains bavo seriously interfered with
the saving ofi fodder and this fact
makes the saving of all the hay possi
ble still more important.
The handling of the pear crop by
the express and railroad companies is
no small job, and to have agents and
clerks In these respective positions
who never lose their patience and al
ways strive to be prompt and polite,
is a very great convenience to ship
pers. Such, we believe hns been the
conduct of all the ' officials at this
point.
Impressions ofThomasville.
Mr. M. V. Hunt, of Anderson,
Iud., who, with his wife, spent last
winter in the city, in a private letter
to Mr. J. S. Montgomery says:
“Do you know that I have thought
of ycu and that 20 acres often, and
only a few days siuce I remarked to
uiy wife that I wished I had bought
it; I don’t think I will he happy until
I do own sonic Thomas cournty dirt.
My wife is in splendid health, aud all
attributable to her stay in your de
lightful little city. May sec you this
winter.”
Their Thomasviilo friends will re
joice to hear of Mrs. H’s. complete
restoration to health and will lie pleas
ed to know that they retain pleasant
recollections of their sojourn here.
It’s Coming.
W. 8. Killingsworth, of Baltimore,
is in the city looking after the pear bus
iness. He informs us that in conver
sation on yesterday with Captain J.
H. Burckhalter, of Augusta, that lie
was told to state to the citizens of
Thoniasville, that he had three hun
dred hands and one bundled and fifty
mules at work on the Augusta and
West Florida R’y. and that he was
moving towards this city ns last as
the work could he done, nnd not to
give him out, for he was sure to come.
Quite a Fall.
Mildred, the pretty little daughter
ofCapt. Hicks, met with an accideut
yesterday that fortunately proved not
as serious ns was first feared. She
and a friend were out in the yard
swiugiug in a hammock when, in
some manner, she was thrown out,
striking the ground violently. The
shock was so violent that it was sever
al moments before she could breathe
freely. A doctor was summoned, and
he says she will be well again in a dny
or two.
Will Work.
William Augustus Overton, a dude
of the first water, in the colored “four
hundred,” but who got lmdly mixed
up with a watch belonging to another
brother while on an excursion, has
donned a neglige uniform of brown
nnd white. For the next ten months he
will assist the towu, at the suggestion
of Judge Mitchell. The small sum
of 858 would have done as well, but
Augustus’ friends could not raise the
amount.
Plenty of Birds.
The hunting season is approaching,
nnd inqurics among the Inrmcrs as to
the probable supply of bird*, is very
cncouingiug to the sportsmen. They
say that the young birds nre about
half grown aud very numerous, espe
cially around Ochlockonce,where there
are better indications of plenty of
covies than for seasons past.
John St. John.
The attention of stock raisers is
called t.) “ad’’ of Mr. C. P. Davis,
announcing the days upon which his
celebrated l.orse will be at Ainsworth's
stable. John St. John is too well
known to need any word of commend
ation from us. He is, without doubt,
one of the finest bboded horses ever
ii the state.
MissEva Carroll,of Live Oak,Fla.,
is visiting Mrs. Jennie Carroll, on
lower Broad street.
Pears are still going forward in large
quantities. Those who indulged the
belief that the crop was about all
marketed the past week were mistaken.
Shipments have been heavy all along
the line of the S. F. & W. Ry. during
the past few days, and we learn that
many of the trees between here and
Savannah are still laden with fruit.
The crop in the eastern portion of the
state is said to have been almost a full
one. In this section it waj fortunate
ly a short one, otherwise we doubt it
the transportation lines could have
moved it. We do not know the ag
gregate shipment from this county so
far, but certain it is that the number of
bushels is quite large, While prices
have not ruled high, they have
generally been such at to leave a fair
margin for profit, and coming at what
would otherwise be a dull season, the
money for the pear crop has been a
big thing for Thomas county.

Strong Men.
Women love stong men. A weak mm
may excite their sympathy aud a woman’s
careful tenderness soothe nnd soften the an
guish of a weak man's soul, hut the laugh-
lug, joyous, warm e.xliuherant love of wo
men dear, belongs to the men that nre strong
and noble and kind. Then why will a man
continue weak, nnd mean nml peevish?
An old gentleman writer: “B* B. B. gives
me new life nnd strength. If there Is any
thing that will make an old man young, it is
B* B, B. ”
Some men say, and women too, they never
feel weak and mean except in the spring.
Why then feel weak and mean and nervous
and prostrated in the spring time when life
and spirit awakens with thrilling buoyancy
even the vegetable world? Must you allow
slugglish blood, inactive organ functions,
rustj joints and general weakness to make
your life miserable simply because the long
winter lias restrained your natural activity ?
It need not be. If only you will use that
pleasant aud incomparable tonic blood puri

that you car. wish. Try it this spring.
