after a short vacation spent in At

Bend us interesting news items, in
both town ami. country. The pear
season is drawing to a close.
Mr. and Mrs. John A, McKinnon
spent yesterday in Pelham, the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. J. I<. Hand.
Misses Johnnie Sloan and Katie
Winn left yesterday morning for At
lanta, where they will spend several
months. ,
Prof. A. Q. Moody passed • through
here yesterday morning enroute to
• the meeting of the State Agricultural
•Society in LaGrange.
• A gentleman received returns Irora
a lot of pears yesterday, which hod
been sold in New York. They netted
the shipper 81.50 per crate. Pretty
good.
Will Mitchell writes John Mont
gomery a characteristic letter from St.
Teresa, where the former is spending
sometime. Will, as he always does,
is having a good time.

- Messrs. I. Levy & Co., are not rat
tled about trade this season. They
are going to spread out, and will have
a’dviSnty feet of ktore front, consisting
of three stores, in the Mitchell House
bloek.
One way, and a mighty good one,
to'Sell goods, i$ to advertise. This is
no experiment. Printers ink—judi
ciously used—never fails to pay. A
good mauy merchants in Thomnsville
might profitably try it.
m The merchants of Thoiuasville will
regret, before the season is over, that
they didmot unite and put up a cot
ton compress. We have urged this
improvement for months, but it does
not seem to have had any effect. All
right.
Quite a number of our citizens will
go down to Monticello this morning
Uptake iu the great base" ball game

Of Mr. T. J. Ball yesterday. Mr.

clearly to our interest to do so. We

A RUNAWAY MATCH.
Love’s Midnight Flight.
About 3 o’clock on Monday morn
ing, while policemen Brown and Gor
don were keeping vigil over the sleep
ing town, a couple drove rapidly
down Broad street, the arc electric
light disclosing a young man and a
blushing maiden.
“Can you tell me where the Ordin
ary lives?” said the young man, as he
glanced over his shoulder to see if any
one was in pursuit.
Policeman Brown, who is always
ready to help nnyonc iu trouble, took
in the situation at a glance, and
promptly piloted the young couple to
Judge Merrill’s residence.
A few vigorous knocks brought the
Judge to the door.
Three o’clock in the morning is
rather au unusual hour to issue “death
warrants,” but the Judge keeps a few
at his residence to use in case of emer
gency ; and thi i appeared to be one of
these cases. In a lew minutes the
young man bad the necessary papery,
when, with a palpitating heart, (wo
suppose his heart was palpitating,)
he sprang into the buggy and drove
off.
While the diamond dew drops still
glittered on the grass, and the early
song birds were trilling their morning
lays, making the woods vocal with
their music, ere the sun had kissed
the tree tops on the distant hills, the
couple drove up to the residence of
Squire Tom Lewis, iu the lower end
of the county, and soon the words
were spoken which nmdc them twain
for life. The groom is Mr. Robert Lee
Futch, and the bride is Miss Jennie
Asbcl, daughter of Noah Ashcl.a suc
cessful and prosperous farmer in the
17th district. May fortune shower
its choicest blessings on the young
couple.

During the epidemic of flux in this county
last summer, I had hard work to keep a
supply of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy on hand. People often
came ten or twelve miles in the night to get
a bottle of the Remedy. I have been selling
patent medicines for the last len yaers and
find that it hns given better satisfaction in
cases of diarrhoea and flux, than any other
medicine I have ever handled.—J. H. Bon
ham, Druggist, (Solcondn. Pope Co., Ill.
Over five hundred hollies of this Remedy
were sold in that county during the epidem
ic referred to. It was a perfect succeeds

worst cases. Dozens of persons there will
certify that it saved their lives. In four
epidemics of bowel complaint this Remedy

Malaria and Broken Down Constitution.
Waycros?, Ga.
Ur. I r. //. White haul:
Dear Sir—At your request I will slate
tny case. .Some years ago 1 contracted
malaria in its most violent form while liv
ing at Newark, X. J. I consulted various
physicians and took numberless preparations
recommended ns “sure cures,” but it stuck
to me like a brother— or more like a mother-
in-law. I finally came Houtli, and while
here tried new remedies, said to always cure
malaria, and it still stuck to me, and you
know the broken-down condition I was in
when I came to you. Von put me to taking
your P. P. P. (Prickley Ash, Poke Root and
Potassium), and 1 improved rapidly, and am
to-day in as good health as I ever was—in
fact better. As a remedy for a broken-down
constitution it has no equal.
Yours etc., T. P. COTTLK.

Heed the timely warning, and regain health

David Uunklc, Cullman, Ga., writes:
used a hundred doHars worth of medicine
for Bright's disease, but it did me no good.
I then took B. B. B., which relieved me.
My appetite is restored and I urinate with
out pain.”
J. A. Maddox, Atlanta, Ga., writes: •*!
hid great trouble in passing urine which
was tilled with sediments. My back and
loins gave me much pain and I lost my ap
petite, strength and flesh. I became nerv
ous and unable to sleep soundly. Two
bottles of B. B. B. gave me entire relief,”
Thomas Williams, Shoddy, Tenn., writes:
“I was troubled with severe kidney com
plaint and confined to my bed. Six bottles
of B. B. B. made a well man of me.”
