In union there is strength.
Trade comes to those who seek it.
The Troy Laundry is turning out
some nice work.
The burdens of a town should not
rest on two or three men.
Look out lor the sanitary inspectors.
Put your premises in order.
Only one colored man pays a pro
fessional tax in the county. He is n
doctor.
From this time until frost, rigid
sanitary regulations should be ob
served.
What is the matter with the mer
chants of Thomasville? Have they
lost their grip 1 /
There is considerable complaint
about the scarcity of bagging and ties
in this market.
There is some talk of establishing a
telephone exchange here this fall. It
should be done.
Are you a candidate for a county
office? Then let the people know it.
A V in advance will tell the talc.
Mr. J. D. Easterland, of the Boll
Telephone Co, was in the city yester
day.^ Hia headquarters arc now in
Macon.
Dr. A. P. Hand, and Mn W. B.
Mctfanlel, ofFadeville, were register
ed at the Stuart yesterday. They
were enrouto up the country.
Don’t forget that Thomasville has
a splendid public library. It should
be Jiatronized and supported. Are
you a member?
Wltfc'dur 'lacffiiies for doing first
class job woik, we can safely promise
all who favor us with their patronage
the.veYy best work at very low prices.
AI Unify is goidg to build a cotton
factory. Will Thomasvillo follow her
example. In the language of another:
“Something must be did.”
Now that the schools are about to
“taktf in” again, we seize the opportu
nity to insist that the three R’s should
noi'Ve neglected. They are the foun-
dntiohof hu education.
Is there that unity and harmony
among the merchants and business
med of Thomasville that should be, to
iosurc a fair share of business ? This
query is a pertinent one.
The city fathers, it would seem from
the tenor of the ordinance adopted at
the last meeting, are going to put a
stop to the wild screeching of railroad
engines within the corporate limits.
In quoting the suggestion of In
spector Pinson the other day, in refer
ence to .trash, vre should have said
th&t’hi' favored piling it up on the
premises and burning it, instead of
putting it out on the streets.
Messrs. Reynolds, Hargrave <fc Da
vis have just’ added a quarter of a
million feet of seasoned lumber to
th&r* stock. Tbis gives them over
half a million feet. They are ready
to execute all orders with promptness.
Hardee's tactics are to be ignored
and^TOew. code of infantry tactics
employed. In fact the change has
already been made. The Guards
should “catch on” to the new order
of things.
Th» new “drill regulations” may
be found in the army and navy regis
ter of Washington, D. G\, August
2d; 9th', and 10th iaiucs.
Thomas County's Growth.
We arc indebted to Receiver ife*
Cnon for the statistical figures, show
ing the taxable property of Thomas
county, which appears elsewhere. It
iB a most gratifying and creditable
exhibit. Few counties in the state
male a better showing. Over onc-
third ot a million increase within one
year, is conclusive evidenco that the
grand old county of Thomas is keep
ing abreast of the most prosperous
counties in the state. We have, in
deed, a goodly heritage down here,
and it should he the pride and aim of
every citizen, both white and colored,
in both towns and county to unite in
still further building up and develop
ing this already favored spot in the
piney woods of Georgia. There is a
bright future ahead, if our people will
but he true to themselves and their
section. Iiet the waste places in the
county lie made to blossom again ; let
every farmer make his place self-sus-
taiuing; let unity and good feeling
prevail, and let all join in the lauda
ble work of making this the most
prosperous lection of the grand old
commonwealth of Georgia.
At Waycross.
The 18th, 19th and 20th will be
red letter days with tho Masouic
brethren in Waycross Their new
building will be dedicated on the 20t.h,
with imposing ceremonies. Low rates
will be given by all the railroads. The
three blue lodge degrees in Masonry
will be exemplified on Monday, Tues
day and Wednesday eve.iings. St.
Thomas Lodge, of Thomasville, will
illustrate the work in the E. A. de
gree, cn Monday night. Thomasville
ought to send a good delegation of
Masons and others down, and she will
doubtless do so. A circular from Mr.
J. L. Sweat, Chm’ii. Gcu’l. Com., and
Mr. D. J. McIntosh, Scc’t. and Treas.
Gen’l. Com. gives a general outline of
the three days programme. By the
way, if you go down, stop with Dun
McIntosh at tho Grand Central. He
is keeping a good house, mid will treat
you right.
