ihe State library; Col. John Millcdge
louod an interisting old book of laws.
The book is bound in the familiar
old sheep in which early I'.nglaud en
closed her laws. The covers extend
several inches beyond the printed
book inside On the back is the lo-
gend ‘Lib Assis. Ed. 3,” which, being
interpreted, is the book of assizes of
Edward third ; and the old book bears
the date l(iO(i: one year before the
founding of Jamestown. Va.
It is in Norman French, then ^ the
legal language of England. Even
fifty years afterward Milton was able
to write;
