Mr. S. L Hayes went u,i to Albany
yesterday morning.
Mr. W. G. Acree, ot Savannah, was
in the city yesterday.
Farmers should not forget that Sep
tember is a month of storni3.
The dust has been most effectually
iaid. No growling about a sprinkler
now.
Cotton, at this season of the year, is
safer out of the field than in it; and
it is still safer, when sold and—paid
for.
Mr. A. L McCollum, a leading
planter and melon grower ot Mitchell
county, was in the city yesterday.
The September Magazines are at
the book stores. They excel this
month in handsome illustrations and
interesting articles.
Messrs. Dan Forest and Joe Mas
sey, ot Boston, were among the lead
ing farmers and Alliancemen in the
city yesterday.
Ladies who have recently walked
through Laurel Hill cemetery com
plain that the grounds are not kept in
good order.
The improved order of Red Men
held their first meeting in their new
quarters over Reid & Culpepper’s last
night. This order is growing very
rapidly in Thomasvtlle.
Tho five numbers of the Century
Magazine, noticed a few days sinco as
having disappeared from the library,
were taken, wo understand, during
tho Guards fair held in tho rooms of
tho association. They should be re
turned.
Mr. George Griffin, who has been
connected with Levy’s City Shoe store
for some time, will go to Macon to
enter Mercer University, where he
will take a course of studies. George
is popular here and it is hoped he will
make this his home when his college
days are over.
Mr. Charley Smith has resigned his
position as orderly sergeant of the
Guards, and will leave shortly to enter
the University of Virginia, where he
will take a thorough course. The
election of his successor will take place
at next regular meeting of the Guards,
which will be Monday night.
Mr. J. E. Reynolds Appointed
Manager of Express Office
Here.
Mr. J. E. Reynolds, of Waycross,
has been appointed manager of the
Southern Express Company’s office
here. Mr. Reynolds has been in the
express business for a long time and
is efficient in all its branches. He has
assumed charge and will no doubt
make an efficient agent in Thomas-
ville. Mr. Wilder Bostick, who has
been acting as agent since Mr. Love
Wilder resigned, will go to Albany. It
is said that the company’s office, on
Jackson street, will be fixed up and
more conveniently arranged before the
winter business begins. This would
be quite an improvement, and the
company .will no doubt have the
changes made.
“Humanity” writes a timely article
on the subject of better treatment of
dumb beasts. A man who will cru
elly beat or mistreat one of these ani
mals should be promptly and severely
punished. Let the law on this subject
be rigidly enforced.
Of Interest to Old SekHero*.
Col., W. LT Calhoun, "president of
the Board of Trustees of the Confed
erate Home, located at Atlanta, has
addressed some inquiries to the ordi
nary’s of the counties which will he
interesting to disabled ox-confederate
soldiers. Tho following questions are
asked:
How many needy ex-confederate
soldiers armthcro in your county?
How «*•&/of them were wounded
during’the ivar—where and how?
How many of them, giving name,
company and regiment, will be wil
ling to cotno have families, and if
they wish to bring their families,
giving age, sex and number of each
family?
How many of such as would be
willing to come are able to do work of
any kind. nnd tho condition of the
health of. each?
What is the present occupation of
applicants or of their families, and
whether any of them are supported
by the county or other public chari
ty?
How mauy will come vithout fam
ilies?
Whether applicants are bona fide
citizens of Georgia, aud if so, how
long?
How many of such as arc willing
to come are now and have been draw
ing pensions from the state?
Through the voluntary contribu
tions of the people of Georgia a tract
of 120 acres of land near Atlanta has
been purchased, and the new home
building will be (completed about the
latter part of this month or Oct. 1.
Mr. Calhoun says that the purchase
of the land and construction of the
building will nearly exhaust the fund
donated, leaving nothing for the
maintenance of the home, which
cannot bo opened until provision is
made for its support by the general
assembly, or in some other way.
Mr. Calhoun says in his letter that
“the men wno responded to tho call
for the defense of the state, and who
are now, in consequence of that ser
vice, decrepit and worn down from
diseaso and wounds, have a right to
be cared for in their declining years.
This homo is established for that pur
pose. A noblo trust. Grand in its
conception and which will yet, I hope,
11 the hearts of the old soldiers with
joy, and of tho people of Georgia with
pride and satisfaction that they were
inspired to inaugurate such an institu
tion.

HARVEY!
THE SOUND OF THE HAMMER
Is heard here, manufactories arc being built,
carload alter carload oi brick, lumber and
lime are on the ground and being unloaded,
the streets are being graded and paved, side
walks laid, houses are building and people
buying lots, lots of them! It is estimated
that from six to ten thousand people will
call this home within the next twelve
months. A picture? Yes, bright and spir
ited. It tingles the nerves and quickens the
trado-pulst. Why should it not bo troe?
It is possible, we should like to say possib'e.
I.. B. M. II. cannot accomplish tiffs, would
that it could, but it proposes to rush matters
in its own line. Our advertising-editor
spoke the other day something about “rush
ing the growler” whatever that means. If
he had said “rushing the hats” we could
sympathize with him, because that is just
what wc are going to do the coming season.
We nre pregaring for a big trade and earn
estly hope you will be pleased to add to a
portion of it.
In the mean time our stock of summer
millinery is not badly run down. We nre
ready to serve you and glad to do so at any
time. School opens soon, wc should like to
fit out all the little girls with nice, neat
school bats at such low prices they would
have to study fractions to find out the
amount. Call and see me.

Wooldridge*! Wonderful Cure Co., Columbus,
Ga.
Dear Sirs: About three years ngo I was
taken with liver and kidney disease, the
doctors treated me with only temporary re
lief, they give me up to die, saying that
there was no medicine known to them that
would do mo any good. From three to five
months nt a time I was confined to tny bed,
notable to get up when down. During try
sickness I was taken with Diabetes as much
as one gallon of water would pass from me
during the night. I fell off until I was noth
ing but a skeleton. Lost march I left
Thomasville, Ga., my home, on my bed, tho
doctors saying that I could not possibly live
to get to Columbus, Ga. When I arrived in
Columbus, I commenced to take W. W. C.,
I have taken six bottles up to this date, I am
now able to attend to my work. Up to the
time I commenced to take W. W. C., I had
not done a days work lor 2 years. I have put
in five days work this week. During this
time I have taken no other medicine but
w. W. C. I was also covered with sores
from the crown of my head to the sole of my
feet, suffered with a pain directly over my
heart for three years that no medicine would
relievo. After taking the first two bottles of
W. W. C., the pain was entirely removed
and I have not felt a symptom of it since. I
was treated, during my sickness, by Drs.
Deklc, Kamsey and Bruce, of Thomasville,
Ga., who can testify to my condition. I
cheerfully recommend it to all who suffer
with liver and kidney troubles,'to give W.
W.C.(Wooldridge’s Wonderful Cure) atrial,
os it has saved my life.
Yours truly,

That “Tired Feeling."
The newspapers arc having a good deal of
lun nowadays over that “tired feeling,” so
much spoken of in medical advertisements,
in connection with the ill-health of females.
It may be a source of hilarity to witty para
graphed, but not so to suffering women,
who, by over work, and a disregard of the
laws ot health, have lasped into a condition
bordering on invalidism. What most wo

slavish work that is piled on them, and a
free, but judicious uso of strengthening ton
ic, such as P. P. P. (Prickly Ash, Poke Root
