An Early Cold Wave.
Washington, Sept. 13.—The sig
nal office fu rushed the following spe
cial bulletin to the press this forenoon:
The signal service reports of yester
day and this morning show the ad
vance from the northwest over Dako
ta, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Northern
Texas, Missouri and Northern Illi
nois of a severe cold wave, which lias
produced unprecedentedly low tem-
pecaturcs and unusually early frosts
throughout those sections. Follow
ing are some minimum temperatures
of this morning, with their relation to
the lowest ever recorded during the
second decade of September: Concnr
dia 34°, 6° below; Wichita 38°, 3° be
low; Davenport 38°, 1° below; Keo
kuk 36°, 3° below; Chicago 38°, 2°
below; Springfield, III., 38°, 2° below;
Springfield, Mo., 40°, 3° below.
Killing frosts were reported this
morning from Central and Northwest
ern Iowa, two weeks earlier; and from
Denver, three days earlier, than there
is any previous record of. Light
frosts were reported from other por
tions ot Iowa, Nebraska and from
Kansas and Northern Missouri. I'rost
warnings were sent yesterday to
Northwestern Iowa and Dakota, and
this morning were issued for the cran
berry aud tobacco districts of Wiscon
sin and the tobacco districts of Mis
souri, Western Kentucky and North
western Tennessee.
