THE LEADERS OF LOW PRICES.
103 and 111 BROAD ST.
Dr. A W. Clisby returned from Ca
milla on Monday.
Thomasville hasn’t any dudes, but
she can boast of the prettiest girls in
Georgia.
Visitors, and many of them near fa
miliar faces, are arriving on ever train.
A welcome greets them all.
Ed. MeRee passed through the city
yesterday en route to Albany after
prisoners for his father’s convict
camp.
Real estate agent Joe Love has
leased the Thad Reese residence on
Upper Broad street, to Mr. J. L.
Avera.
The next attraction to hold the
boards at the opera house will be Col
ored Aristocracy. The compauy is
billed for this place Friday night.
Quite a frost was observed early
yesterday morning. Early vegetables
and flowers were probably datnnged
to some yxtent. The mercury drop
ped to 39°.
Mr, D H. Slubblebine, of Mbany,
N. Y., who was with the Mitchell
House orchestra two seasons ago,
writes that he will return to Thomas
ville again this season.
Christmas toys and holiday good
vill soon be displayed ; and then the
children will i>|1 be happy. May every
one of them get something real nice,
on Christmas morning.
The Fashion Changed.
The front of Watts, storr is being
repainted. Quite a number of store
fronts have been under the brush this
fall, and the result makes quite an im
provement. A few years ago the
crage all over the country was to paint
business houses in fancy colors. The
brightest blue, yellow, red, etc., were
the favorite colors. But fashion has
changed, and now dark green and
brown are the colors mostly used.
Council Proceedings.
Council Rooms, Oct. 27, 1890
Council tact In regular session. Mayor
Hopkins presiding.
Alderman Wright, Hayes, Mitchell, Mer
rill and Wise present.
Minutes of last meeting read and confirm
ed.
Petition of M. Levine for license to do
mercantile business granted.
Merrill, Mitchell and Wise appointed a
committee to investigate the complaint of
James Atkinson in taxing his property too
high.
Alderman Merrill wns authorize 1 to pur
chase 108 feet of pipe to be used near the
Piney Woods Hotel, and he was authorized
to put in sewer pipe at crossing of Warren
and Love streets.
Finance committee requested to examine
the tax book9 to ascertain if any taxable
property has been overlooked.
Following report was adopted:
On petition about crossing at cemetery on
Jackson street, strccUomjniftec reports that
it will cost about $400 to put in brick cul
verts to get rid of branch rrom both Jackson
and Mitchell streets. This to nmke a cul
vert two feet in diameter on fnr side, and
four to five feet on side near town.
On crossing on Hardaway street in Col
lege Park, it is impracticable to build a
bridge for vehicles without great expense,
and we recommend a foot bridge four feet
wide for foot passengers.

A Mother’s Song.
The old cradle. Wo all rooked at
that.
For fifteen years the cradle was
going much of the time. When the
elder child wns taken out the smaller
child was put in. The crackle of
the rockers is yet pleasant in my ears.
There I took my first lessons in
music ns mother sang to me. I have
heard what people would call far bet
ter singing since then, but none that
so thoroughly touched me. She
never got 8500 per night for singing
two or three songs at the Academy,
with two or three encores grudgingly
thrown in, but without pay she some
times snug all night and came out
whenever encored, though sho had
only two little ears for an audience.
It was in a low, subdued tone, that
sings to tne yet across more than forty
years.
The edge of the rocker was worn
quite deep. That was where her foot
was placed when she sat with her
kuittiug or sewing on a summer af
ternoon, while the bees hummed at
the door and the shout of the boy
at the oxen was heard afield.—Dr
Talmage in New York Joural.
