The People Will Rule.
Speaking cf the financial depression
and the dem md ot the people lor re
lief, the Allanta Constitution offers the
dangerous advice that if the Govern
ment refuses or fails to give the people
what they ask for, then it should be
taken by force. And it says that the
American people, with their compact
business and industrial organizations,
can carry through a successful revolu
tion in a few days, and they will do it
ifihey are driven to it. We cannot
follow our contemporary in this propo
sition. The time has not conic, and
we trust it .t ill never come, when the
American people will adopt the argu
ment ol force in dealing with their
Government. We hone never to see
the commune raise its head in this
court ry, ar.d we are glad to believe
'bat the American people are made ol
different stuff. The ballot box is the
place to see where the people make
and enforce tneir demands, jfl a free
country the ballot box is mightcr than
t te sword, and it is there the great
battle between the people and monop
oly mu<t be fought. It :s the field for
peaceful and successful revolution

People passing along Broad street
are struck by the largo amount of
holiday goods displayed by our mer
chants. Notwithstanding the de
pressed condition of the money mar
ket? there are more goods and better
goods exhibited this season than ever
before. To substantiate the above
assertion, we would cite the readers
attention to the elegaut establishment
of Mr. Jos. Jerger. A look into his
store will convince the most skeptical
of thctiuthol the above. You can
find there all the latest novelties in
Xmas goods, articles to suit all classes
and purses. His stock was selected
with the utmost care, and no pains
or expense were spared to give the
people of Thomasville the opportunity
ot making their selection from tho
