Lost in New York.
This thrilling melodrama was greet
ed Thursday evening by a very fair
audience. This play is perhaps the
most artistically constructed of the
many plays of this type. The scenery
was excellent, especially the tank
scene, which, with the little steam
launch running hack and forth, gave
a most realistic cflect. While these
features arc of some importance, and
are greatly appreciated, the play isnot
without a neatly constructed plot. A
poor street girl, cast up on the sympa
thy of the world, shows what a deter
mined, honest girl can do for herself
If she is half a mind to. Her career
is romantic and her adventures innu
merable. Miss Lottie Alter played
the leading role and completely- cap-,
tured the audience. The parts taken
by Mr. Qua Pisley, tlfnt of the tramp
and as gas meter inspector, were ex
ceedingly well rendered. His songs
were repeatedly encored. The entire
pqippany is an unusually good one
god mado quite a hit. Taken as a
whole,-the company and play is the
bat seen in cur opera house this sea-

a full bouse in Thomasvillc should
they como this way again.
The Force Bill. _
The repab'icans in the senate have
at last come o an agreement on their
financial meisures, and adopted a
scheme for passing a clo’ure rule, by
which they can cut off debate at any
time, and so pass that great measure
of fraud a id iniquity, the force bill. Of
course the democrats v.-ill fight these
measures to tie lost, but it seemsp[ob
able that L'zir Reed and his friend
Harrison may yet put through their
scheme for thw.iriing the will of the
people and count;ng themselves into
power again. This lorce bill unites all
the powers ol force and fraud tn therf
geryices, hut the people may asser,
themselves in spite ot both and retire
such men as Reed and Harrison to
the shades of private life and public
dishonor.
pispatches rcce \td since the above
(vasput in type indicate strong oppo
sition to the finance bill and cloture
yule as agreed upon in the cau
cus. It is said that none * of
the senators are willing to father the
odium of passing the force bill under
a cloture tuie.
The Deepest Lake Known.
By far the deepest lake known in the
world is Lake Baikal, in Siberia, which
is every way comparable to the great
Canadian lakes as regards size; for
while its area is over 9,000 square
miles, making it about equal to.Erie
in superficial extent, its numerous
depth of between 4,000 and 4,500 feet
makes the volume of its waters almost
equal to that of Lake Superior. A!
though its surface is 1,350 feet above
the sea level its bottom is nearly 3,000
feet below it. Th: Caspain lake or
sea, as it is usually called, has a depth
in its southern basin ol over 3,000 feet.
Lake Maggiore is 3 000 feet deep,
Lake Como nearly s.ooo feet and Le
go-di-Garda, another Italian lake, has
a depth in certain places of 1,900 feet.
Lake Constance i< over r,ooo feet
deep, and Huron and Michigan reach
depths of 900 to 1,000 feet,—Geo-

People passing along Broad street
are struck by the largo amount of
holiday goods displayed by our mer
chants. Notwithstanding the de
pressed condition of the money mar
ket, there are more goods and better
goods exhibited this season than ever
before. To substantiate the above
assertion, we would cite the readers
attention to the elegant establishment
of Mr. Jos. Jerger. A look into his
store will convince the most skeptical
of thetiuthoi the above. You can
find there all the latest novelties in
Xmas goods, articles to suit all classes
and purses. His stock was selected
with tho utmost care, and no pains
or expense were spared to give the
people of Titomasville the opportunity
ot making their selection from the
most complete stock to be found in
the South. Drop in when you are
passing. Mr. Jerger will be glad to
welcome and show you through.

could cure her. Her druggist suggested Dr
King’s New Discovery for Consumption; she

SIGN OF BIG REDBC
Lung Troubles, Rheumatism, Eto.
Frequently a person is supposed to have
consumption when it is some other iliscaso
altogether that is reducing his flesh and
making him look palo and thin.
J. W. Yates, Tullahomn, Tcnn., writes:
“It does me good to praise Botanic Blood
Balm. It cured me of an nbscss on the lungs
and asthma that troubled mo two years and
that other remedies failed to benefit.”
So you sec it Is sometimes well to try con
stitutional treatment. No remedy is so good
as It. B. B. (Botanic Blool Balm) for re
building wasted tissue, and giving health to
everv portion of the system reached by that
great circulation stream of life, tho human
blood. Again, it is often supposed that
colds and exposure are tho only causes of
sciatica, rheumatism, etc. Such is always
the cases. It is frequently caused by impur
ities in the Wood.
Wm. Price, I.uttsville, Mo., writes: “I was
afflicted with sciatica and had lost tho use
of one arm and ono leg for nine years. I
went to Hot .Springs and also tried different
doctors, hut found no cure until.I tried Bot
anic Blood Balm. It made me sound and well.
I am well known in this vicinity."
Observe, even when the renowned Hot
Springs failed, B. B. B. brought relief. Re
member, no matter what blood remedy you
havo tried or intend to to, I). B. B. is tho
only ono that will giyo you complcto satis
faction.
