It turned sharply cooler yester
day.
Overcoats.and fires were in demand
yesterday.
The gang are now engaged in work-
ing the streets.
There is a calm after the rush pro
ceeding Christmas.
The fox hunters anticipate a lively
chase on new years’ morning.
That rain on Christmas night was
most exceptble. It laid the dust most
effectually.
The gang have been doing some
excellent work on Madison street the
past two days. •
The Hopkins Real 'Estate Agency
will have an attractive ad in these
columns iu a day or two. Lookout
for it.
Policemen Brown and Gordon were
presented with now bats on Christ
mas by Mr. S. Richy. They de
served it.
Now that the boulevard has been
finished the gang will have more
time to devote to keeping the streets
iu good order.
The Blue arid the Gray.
War memories are now and then re
vived by some play on the stage. Just
now . “Shenandoah,” a war 'play, is
having quite a run. Speaking of this
and other similar productions, and re
ferring to a criticism on “Shenandoah”
which recently appeared in the Savan
nah’ Dail* Times, “Idler,” in the At
lanta Journal, says:
“From the tenor of its remarks I
infer that there was too much North
ern coloring in the play to suit cntical
Southern audiences.
1 don’t doubt it, because up to this
time no Northern author, however im
partial he may have tried to be, has
yet written anything about the late war
which doesn’t show at least a shade of
leaning to the Federal side. Almost
everything which has been written up
there about the war shows a very de
cided leaning that way.
I don’t like war plays to any alarm
ing extent—aud didn't go to see
“Shenandoah,” in which 1 am told
Piil Sheridan rides in on horseback
But if some bright Southern writer will
give us a play in which Robert E. Lee,
or Stonewall Jackson, or Albert Syd
ney Johnson, or John B. Gordon
comes in on horseback and present
it here, well, I’d break a trace chain
get a front seat and yell myself hoarse
before the first act was over. That’:
the kind of a war play goer 1 am—and
I think the people are with me by sev
eral thousand majority—don’t you?

~ People passing along Broad street
are struck by the large amount of
holiday goods displayed by onr mer
chants. Notwithstanding the' de
pressed condition of the money mar
ket, there are more goods and better
goods exhibited this season than ever
before. To substantiate the above
assertion, we would cite the readers
attention to the elegant establishment
of Mr. Jos. Jerger. A look into his
store will convince the most skeptical
of the tiuth of the above. You con
find there all the latest novelties in
Xmas goods, articles to suit all Tlasses
and purses. His stock was selected
with tho utmost care, and no pains
or expense were spared to give the
people of Thomasville the opportunity
ot.making their selection from tho
most complete stock to be found in
the South. Drop in when you are
passing. Mr. Jerger will be glad to
welcome and show you through.

Ah, there are a thousand causes. What is
it that cures rheumatism? Thank God, there
is at least one cure. It is called B. B. B. or
