The Meet.
There is nothing that sets the veins
tingling like a “meet.” The merry
blast of the hunter’s horn, the gay
cavalcade of ladies and gentlemen,
the horses pawing impatiently for the
signal to be off, and the silvery bay
ing of the hounds that makes the pine
forest ring with their music is an in
spiring sight and sound.
The “meet” yesterday on the boulev
vard, near Col. McIntyre’s residence,
was largely attended. Many who
did not care to actively participate
went in vohicles. The morning was
simply Buperb, and all expected
a fine run, but in this they were disap
pointed. Tho fox could nut Bee
where the fun came in for him, and
positively refused to join in. When
first released he glided off only a
short distance and sought refuge un
der a large fallen log. A spade was
procured and Reynard was soon dis
lodged. A good start was then given
him before tho chains of the little
Beagles were slipped, but houuds and
hunters overtook him again less than
three hundred yards away. The
chase was then postponed until an
early dale. In rescuing Reynard
from the hounds, he caught two of
Judge Hopk'ns’ fingers between his
sharp teeth, and so tight was the hold
that his mouth had to be forced open
by the hunters who quick'y went to
the Judge’s assistance. Every one
is eager for another go at the fox.
Kansas’ Capital.
Topeka, Kan., Feb. 23.—The pop
ulist House has adopted a resolution
providing for the removal of tho
capital to Kanopolis. The resolution
was adopted in two minutes after its
introduction. The resolution recites
that the capital is now located near
tho eastern borders, that the western
counties have been disfranchised by
republican rule, for tho purpose of
holding the capita 1 at Topeka, that
the conduct of the citizens of Topeka
recently has been in defiance of the
wishes of the people of the stato and
that the Kanopolis people have of
fered to duplicate the present state
house without expense to the state,
and declares that as soon as practica
ble lawful steps shall be taken to
remove the capital to that city.
