It is fortunate that Mrs. Rowena
Clarke stipulated that she should not
be held accountable for costs growing
out of her suit. Her attorneys will
have to foot the bill.
A rather erode citizen of Seguin, a
small town in western Texas, was
elected justice of the peace, and the
only law book he had was Cushing’s
Manual. The first case before him
was that of a cowboy for stealing a
steer. When the case was called the
leading lawyer of the town, the Hon.
John Ireland, by name, was there to
defend the prisoner.
‘As there is no counsel for the other
side,’ he said, 'I make a motion that
the case he dismissed.’
The justice looked over bis mauual.
‘A motiou bar to be seconded,’ he
said.
‘I second the motion,’ promptly re
sponded the prisoner.
‘The motion has been seconded that
the case be dismissed,’ said the court.
‘All in favor will please say ‘aye.’
The prisoner and his attorney voted
•aye.’
‘AH opposed will say 'no.’ Nobody
voted.
'The motion is carried and the cise
is dismissed,’ repeated the court. ‘A
motion to adjourn is now in order.’
The prisonor made the motion, and
the court adjourned.

Cramp in Limbs?
The president has issued his proc
lamation convening congress in extra
semion on the 7th of August Mr.
Cleveland is not blind; he knew when
to call congress together. He was
convinced by the reports from all
over the country that it was neces
sary for ongrees to meet at an earlier
day than he had originally iotended
the body to meet. India has
since that time repudiated silver,
heuco the urgency for the repeal of
the Sherman act.

A half witted young roan chopped
off his mother’s head, while she slept
in a neat little home near Atlanta, a
day or two since. He then proceeded
to split the head into several pieces.
The mother’s head was severed by the
first blow of the axe, and she never
knew that her first born was her mur
derer. The young man laughed over
the scene, when found standing in the
room.

extra session,says that congress would
not have repealed the Sherman law
for him. But they will repeal it for
Cleveland and they will do it prompt.

A dispatch from Washington to the
Telegraph says:
Congressman Ben Russell has had
quite a talk with Mr. Cleveland rela
tive to south Georgia. The genial con-
gressman did not mince words when
speaking about that section. He spoke
ol the loyalty of the peeple of lower
Georgia and their firmness to dsmoc
racy.
The great Central railroad case is
at an end. The Terminal wins by
being allowed to vote its share, and
the road, with its leases, etc., is to be
sold. Judge Jackson showed,* won
derful grasp of the many intricate
points involved.
•
Houston Home Journal: The
acreage devoted to cotton in Houston
county this year is smaller than last
year by several hundred acre,; the
corn and provision crops are much
larger; much more attention is being
’devoted to hog raising, and ranch less
than usual is being bought on credit
If the South would follow the ex
ample of Houston county we would
have the most prosperous and the
happiest people on earth.
Judge Speer rendered a dissenting
opinion in reference to the voting
power of the Terminal’s 42,000 shares
in the central. Justice Jackson’s
decree, however, stands—that is un
less it is taken to the U. S. supreme
court and there reversed.
