Atlanta, Dec. 6 —That the Atlanta
federal prison is today housing and
nearly always has in the past more
nation-famous people than all the
hotels and private residence of At-
Atianta combined, is again strikingly
shown by the announcement that
Karl Bunez. and the other big bugs
of the Hamburg-American line will
spend the next year and a half there.
a current historian were to
take a bird’s eye view of Atlanta,
with regard to getting up an ency-
clopoedic “Who’s Who,” in America,
about the only real material he
would And would be at the prison.
Also, there are about as many mil
lionaires out on the hill, as the guest
of Uncle Sam as you can find walk
ing free around the s’rects.
Among the many men who have
been in the Atlanta prison, whose
names are family words in America

ARSENAL AND SHOOT AT OTH
ER SHIPS.
(By Associated Press.)
Shanghai, China, Dec. 6.—The
mutinous crew of the Chinese crui
ser Chao-Ho abandoned their vessel
early today, after it had been bom
barded and set afire.
A band or rebels attacked the lo
cal arsenal at midnight, but it was
repulsed.
The authorities now appear to
complete control of the situation
here, and in the surrounding coun
try.
Three of the mutineers are known
to have been killed, while at least
five others are wounded.
It was .learned later today that
the crew of the cruiser did not
mutiny, but rebels boarded the
cruiser from a launch and over-
owered the crew with revolvers,
forcing them to fire on the arsenal
and other warships anchored near
by. The officers threw overboard
the keys to both the six- and four-
inch magazines, making t ie use of
the larger guns impossible.

The first business before the House
today was the election of a Speaker.
South Trimble, the clerk, called the
body to order. Members faen pro
ceeded to the election of the Speak

the re-election of Champ Clark,

the choice of the Republicans
their leader.
Two hundred and twenty-nine
Democrats, 197 Republicans, 6 Pro

There is one vacancy on the Demo

attracted much attention.
Several New Statesmen in Senate.
Senate proceedings always are
quieter than those in the House. As
striking as the return of old (aces to
the House was the absence of famil
iar countenances in the Senate.
Senators Root, of New York; Bur
ton, of Ohio; Bristow, of Kansas;
Crawford, of South Dakota; Per
kins, of California, and Stephenson,
of Wlsconson, were missing from the
Republican side. Democratic ranks
missed Thornton, of Louisiana;
White, of Alabama, and Camden, of
Kentucky. The first business was
swearing in the new Senators. Most
of them are already well known
in political circles.
Among the Republicans, came
James W. Wadsworth, of New York,
successor to Root, who attracted at
tention as the youthful speaker of
the New York assembly; Charles
Curtis, of Kansas, who succeeds Bris
tow, and Warren G. Harding, of
Ohio, who succeeds Burton.
Oscar \V. UnderwiMHl Sworn In.
Oscar W. Underwood, of Alabama,
former majority leader of the House,
led the new Democrats. Other Dem
ocrats who took the oath were James
D. Phelan, of California: J. C. W.
Beckham, of Kentucky; Robert F.
Broussard, of Louisiana; Edwin S.
Johnson, of South Dakota, and Paul
O. Hasting, of Wlsconson. The Sen
ate now stand, Democratic 56 and
Republican forty.
Tomorrow, shortly after noon, the
House and Senate will sit in joint
session in the Hall of the House, to
hear President W'lson deliver his
annual address.
