The department of agriculture has
had under consideration . for aome
time the application of the federal
food and drug act to the shipment
of interstate commerce of eggs in
the shell, especially the two classes
of eggs known in the ttaee as “cur
rent receipts," and as “rejects."
from candling rooms.
“Current receipts'' contain at dif
ferent seasons of the year varying
proportions of eggs which are filthy,
decomposed, or putrid. “Rejects"'
from candling rooms, ns a rule, con
tain large proportions of eggs which
are filthy, decomposed or putrid, and
very small proportion of eggs suita
ble for consumption.
Under the federal food and drug

is intended to preceed the cars thru !
the country, is also being amplified ,
