The first Siberian regiment, which
with other* of the First Siberian
Corps* turned tbe tide of battle at
Lodz when a RuiaUn army wa* al-
nioit completely enveloped by the
Oermzon, and which bore, the brunt
of the lighting before Wuraaw, hue

vear*. It was ereated in 1720 by
Peter th* Great. It was th* regi
ment sent ln the Chinese expedi
tion In 1100-02, and for it* services
at that time It wta awarded a Jag
with a special Inscription by tha

Flint Manchurian Army In the Jap
anese war and fought at Ut-Ten.

great historic value aa well. When
the regiment la at home, at every

the head of the table or In the
place of honor for the Emperor.
Above it always I* placed his por
trait, one of hit many gifts. At
regimental dinner* the portrait Is
veiled until the toast* are reached,
when it Is uneovered and the first
toast is to His Imperisl Majesty.
The place at table is served as
though the Emperor were present In
fact.
Another tradition of this regi
ment. which le.-andent and aban
doned by nearly alt other Siberians,
is tbe presentation of the wine-cup.
It is rarely observed except. when
the Emperor Is present or for other
distinguished guests. To the sing
