TURK DELEGATES TALK
TO NEWSPAPER MEN

ation opened the sluice gates of
lunication yesterday evening by
[receiving the brigade of newspaper
correspondents and provided by far
the most amusing prei
since the Lausanne conclave inaugu
rated its laboi
Ismet Pasha himself did the talk,
ing. He tjok a fling at the other
delegations which have been divulg
ing the proceedings of the seen
conference sessions by solemnly d<
daring that his sense of honor in th
sacredness of agreement prevented
him from making public what had
gone on behind the closed doors.
Then he joyfully jumped to
question of the love marriage” which
somebody had told him had taken
place between the Balkan states, and
directed against the dangers of Tur.
key’s return to Europe.
•’Personally,” he retorted j “I
haven’t heard a thing about this
‘marriage." A vicious woman writer
from the Balkans Interjected, “but
general, you were not invited to the
wedding, were you?
Ismet laughed heartily, but de
clined to give an answer.
The Kemalist foreign minister is
very deaf, and his secretary Yahia
Kemal, a distant relative of the great
Mustapha, farily shouted the next
“The journalists want to know
ibout the love marriage’ between
Turkey and Russia.”
Ismet lost his captivating smile at
his. but replied in a serious vein:
That is a marriage that has actually
occurred. Everything they say about
