In light of what is known, at pres

there seems to be little that can be
done to prevent the spread of the

Experience in the use of vacines
for the prevention of influenza and
the secondary pneumonias, up to the
present time, does not seem to war
rant a belief that such preparations
have any value, and their administra
tion to tho public in general is
advised. If they are used effort
should be made to ascertain carefully
the' ’necessary facts concerning age
group, susceptibility, opportunity for
expdsure, etc., for the vpccinated
group, ns well us for an unvaccinated
control group, in order that observa
tions mude as to tho results may be
based upon sound date. Experiments
of thin sort should not be attempted,
however, except as a special investi

deemed effective in the ultimate co
trol of the disease. This is
particularly good time to urge your
proprietors of soda fountains, drug
stores, etc., to abandon the
common glasses and other containers,
by pointing out the danger of spread
ing the fatal infections which compli
cate respiratory diseases.
The closing of schools, churches,
theaters, etc., and the prohibiting of
public gatherings do not seem to be
effective, and is not advised except
in small communities and in rural
Communities where an outbreak may
assume such proportions as to render
necessary to spread the case
incidence over a longer period of time
in the interest of proper medical
re for the sick.
Every effort should be made to
secure prompt and complete report
