BALL PLAYERS HERE.
Bostonian* Arrived Sunday and Spent
Monday In Practice.
The members of the Boston base ball
team of the National League arrived in
Thomasville on Sunday afternoon and
prooeeded immediately to the Mitchell
Hoorn where they are quartered during
.their stay here. They spent a quiet
night Sunday and practiced birice at the
Hair Grounds on Monday.
The bell player* are a fine looking
set of stalwart sons of swat, and make a
good impression .upon all who meet
them. They walk to and from the dia
mond for exercise, and in their gray
uniforms and scarlet costs they are an
object of admiration to the small boy,
who reads of their exploits in the papers
and talks knowingly of "salary wings,”
and "grape-vine curves.”
The practices yesterday were very
light, as the men have rusty joints from
a winter's inactivity, but they will soon
limber up in the southern sunshine and
will do some genuine hard work during
their ten days stay.
The team is again in charge of Mana
ger A. G. Buckenberger, and the men
with him are Pitchers Y. Willis, O.
Pittinger, T. Fisher, J. O. Stewart and
1 Welhelm, Catcher T. Needham, In-
fielders F. Tenney, E. Abbatohio, J,
Delehanty, Fred Baymer and H. Aubrey
Outfielders, D. Cooley, J. B. Stanley,
and W. Connell.
Most of the men have been here dur
ing the seasons of 1903 and 1903 and ex
pressed themselves as delighted At
getting book into Thomasville'a weather
and fopiiiiav scenes. The practices will
oontinue twice daily, and the men will
endeavor to get info shape before leav
ing.
The team comprises some’of the best
known men in the base ball world.
In 1902 they came third in the
race for the pennant with an average -of
.638 being 10 points behind Brooklyn
who finished second. Last year they
did not do so well as they finished sixth
with an average of .420. Indications
are that they will be well up in the
fray this time.

NewMones Bridge Will belOon* and
-• BPolltlcal Pic Nlclls Promised.
Capt. E. M. Smith, chairman of the
Board of County Commissioners, says
that the bridge to take the place of the
old Jones Bridge that was swept away
by the flood, is progressing nicely. The
wood work has been completed and now
the iron span over the river will be put
intopisoe. Capt. Smith says alt the
Work will be done and the bridge ready
for traffic by May fifteenth.
•It bas been suggested that a political
pie nio in honor of the event, would be
a good idea. The people of the eonnty
could gather on the banka of the Ooh
lookonee with a plentiful supply cf
those basket dinners for whioh Thomas
county fanners are famous, ’ and the
candidates for office could Improve the
opportunity to give the people a taste of
Thomas county eloquence. The idea is
a good one and ,the Times-Enterprise
hopes that it will be carried into effect.
