OLD TIME CONFEI
Editor Times-Enterprfae;
I have received so ( many requests
(many of them from Northern visitors
who lieard the song on Memorial Day)
for “>Ve Are Old Time Confederates,"
that I take the liberty of aakingyon
to publish tbo lines. They were-wiil-
ten by Capt. “Tip" Harrison of Atlan
ta, one of tlio truest, bravest and most
knightly Georgians, who, when a mere
boy, donned the gray and followed the
fortunes of tlie Lost Cause nnttl the
stars and bars went down in defeat at
Appomattox. Fearless in battle, yet
gentle and tender aa a woman, he illus
trated Georgia on a score of the blood-
iost battle fields of the war.
The John B. Gordon chapter, Daugh
ters of the Confederacy, have, a year in
advance, invited this chivalrous repre
sentative of a canse still dear to south
ern hearts, to be with ns on next Memo
rial Day. Onr people and especially the
old soldiers, will look forward with
, pleasant anticipations to meeting the
past. If Croesus himself came to | , m thor of the song mentioned, to meet-
Thomasville ho would not want to pay j j n g “Tip" Harrison, the man who never
twice what a thing is worth, just be-’ turned Ms back on friend or foe.

Everybody should take care that it does
not obtain (his unsavory cognomen and
thus slay the "hen that lags the golden
egg.” An easy and simple remedy is
for the council to pass at) ordinance re
quiring every hackraan to post in a con
spicuous place in his vehicle a schedule
of fares,* fixed by law, then each
passenger can pay with a pleavnrj
sense of not being gouged, and if he |
wishes, as many do, lie cap reward po- {

hack-fare ordinance.
REFORM NEEOED.
The two communications in recent it-
goes of the Times-Enterprise in regard
to the hack service of tlie city have
aroused no small amount of comment,
and it teems that cdRbin reform

of tlie offense should have his license re
voked. Tills is a good idea and some
aldermen, who perhaps has himself
mUsed a train or logged a heavy nit-

The other communication was from
Mrs. McGaalin, a winter visitor; who
claims overcharge, and attachment for

hackman claims that in this particular

Whenever a sore or nicer is slow in healing then you may be sure
something is radically wrong with your blood. Some old taint °r poi^n
that has been slumbering there for years, is beginning to assert itself,
and breaks out and becomes a bad ulcer and perhaps, the beginning of
Cancer. Theso old sores are rooted in the blood, and while washes, soaps,
salves, etc., keep the surface clean, they are not healing. A plcoa
medicine to purify and strengthen the polluted blood
and a tonic to build up the general system is what
is needed, and S. S. S. is just such a remedy, , No
poison is so powerful and no germ so deadly
that this great vegetable blood remedy cannot reach
it» and ulcers of every kind quickly yield to its wonderful curative prop-
erifes. If you have an old sore or ulcer, write us all about it, and medi-

Quaint, Queer and Curious Salt Lake
City.
The late Col. Jdhn Cockerell in The
Cosmopolitan said “There are three uni
que cities tn America, and one of these
is Salt Lake City.** It is not only uni
que in its temple, tabernacle and other
Mormon church institutions, but quaint
in appearance, with its wide streets, in>
mense blocks and martial rows of shade
trefs. It has, perhaps, more attractions
to the square yard than any city in the
country, and its climate, while temper
ate all the year round, is particularly
delightful in summer. The Great Salt
Lake, with its magnificent Saltair resort,
where the water is “deader and denser”
than that in the Dead Sea in Palestine
is an attraction in itself that people
come miles to see. There are many
cool fountain ar.d lake resorts near by,
also numerous very pretty canon and
park drives, and hot sulphur springs,
Fishing and hunting can be had in every
direction. The trip from Denver to
Salt Lake City and Ogden, via the Den*
Rio Grande and the Rio Grande
western, is one of unsurpassed pleas
ure. Here nature is found in her stern
est mood and the whole line is a suc
cession of rugged canons, waterfalls
and picturesque valleys. No European
trip can compare with it in graudeur of
scenery. During the entire summer
there will be low- excursion rates to Salt
