The Thomasville i'iincs-iSnterprine
»ont yesterday to Judge Alton B. Parker
a Wl imnnd Triumpii melon grown in
Thomas county, it lioiw* that dda may
lie nu omen of Sucre,*. A "Triumpii"
to tlie triumphant.
Tlie melon was grown by Mr. F. N.
Carter at ills place nour Merrillville. It
was submitted s* n candidate for tlie
•Hi prize offered by tlie Atlantic and
Birmingham railroad for tlie heaviest
melon along its line. The big fellcw
won the prise, and is now going to tl e
candidate who is going to win tlie presi
dential prizo.
The Timea-Knterprise heard of this
mammoth melon, which eclipsed the 80
1-3 ponndor that heretofore held the
belt. The paper immediately oommu-
nleafed with Mr. A. G. McFadden, gen
eral passenger agent of tlie A. and B.
and found them very ready to part with
the prize winner tot each a purpose.
So yesterday the big melon sped on ite
way to "Roeemont” the summer home
of Judge Parker, over the linee of the
Southern Express Company. It will
doubtless cunse the eve* of New York
people to open witli astonishment, and
their months to water when they see it.
Needless to say that the melon is screen
ed from the view of thi pub lie ins i big
barrel, lest envy and hanger should
triumph over the mormtlaw.
It ie peculiarly appropriate that a
Georgia melon should be cent to the
Democratic candidate, for in tbie-etate
everything even the watermelons are
For Parker.” So here’* hoping that
the Judge’s coarse may be as smooth as
the glistening sidee, and bis prospects as
rosy as its ripe red heart.
