water syrups must pay the $400 tax
Just the same as home concerns who
make them.
Bottling works where soda and
light drinks are bottled are taxed
for the first time next year, the tax
ranging from $6 to $300, according
to the amount of business done.
A specific tax is put for the first
time upon all home and foreign cor
porations, this tax being graduated
In accordance with the corporation’s
capital stock, as follows: Corpora
tions with capital stock not exceeding
$25,000, $5; with capital sfdck of
$26,000-to $100,000, $10; capital
of $100,000 to $300,000, $26; with
capital $300,000 to $600,000, $60:'
with capital $600,000 to $1,000,000,
$75; and with capital over $1,000,-
000, $100.
Dealers In tobacco of any kind who
redeem tags on their packages or
plugs must pay a tax of $200.

In the law Is that all corporations

return their franchises for taxation
to the controller general, must also
return to him their physical prop
erty. Heretofore certain classes of
corporations such as gas companies,
electric light companies and similar

From Saturday’s Dally.
Two freight wrecks on the same
mfornlng within a few hundred yards
of each other was the record of the
Coast Line yesterday. The wrecks'
both occurred near the 95 mile poBt
five miles from town. In one case
the engine of a west-bound freight
left the track, was shorn of Its pi
lot, and carried several cars with
It. In the other case some of the
cars of an eastward train left the
track. One rolled down the embank
ment and lies there now on the flat
of Its back. The wrecks occurred
about day break. The wrecking
crew went swiftly to work and-there
was no serious delay In the time of
the passenger trains. No members
of the train crew were Injured In
either wreck.
SCHOOL DIVISION.
Grady County Takes 32 Schools from
Thomas Territory.
The new county of Grady will be
well suplled with educational facil
ities or at least that portion of It that
is now Thomas county will be.
County Schools Commissioner K. T.
Maclean announced yesterday that
the division wouldtake 32 schools
from those under his Jurisdiction.
/There are still plenty left In Thomas
county however. There were 106
schools and there are still 73. All

TO LEGISLATURE.
Hearst Will Carry His Fight Against
McClellan.
New York, Dec. 16.—The person
al counsel of W. R. Hearst In the
fight against the re-election of Mayor
McClellan has announced a new plan
to win the fight. He said he will
have a bill introduced Into the leg
islature providing for the recount of
all ballots cast In the county. It will
provide for reopening aD ballot boxes
for recount, in view of the evidences
of fraud In the count. The recount
will be for discovering the extent of
fraud not to correct. In the mean
time the court proceedings will be
tontlnued.

Stock to W. W. Shepherd.
Mr. A. C. Brown has sold his
store buying on Jackson street to
Mr. W. W. Shepherd. The block
is a two story one with store room
downstairs and offices above. It Is
a valuable piece of property In a
good business portion of town. Mr.
Shepherd also purchased the stock
of T. S. Vinson who has been con
ducting a wholesale and retail gro
cery business on Broad street. He

teachers of the state will get their
pay for the month of December In am
pie time to spend it during the Christ
mas week. Warrants have been pre
pared by the state school commission
er and the treasurer will have the
checks ready to send out by Wednes
day. In all the amount to be dls
trlbuted foots up $311,099.32.
There are only five counties that
have failed to send in their Itemised
statements and these may come In
tomorrow or next day. Fulton coun
ty will receive more money from this
fund than any other county In the
state, the amount being $15,192.60.
