thrown over the rails, otherwise his

A visit by a Tlmes-Enterprise re
porter to the public schools with the
visiting committee, from the board
of education during tbe past week,
proved a very delightful and Inter
esting one. Tha patrons of the
school who have not visited It should
by all means do so when an oppor-
titn'ty is offered. The grounds are in
perfect phape, there being a large
play ground for the boys on one side
of the building where they Indulge
In baseball and foot ball to their
heart's content. The other side Is
devoted to the sports, which appeal
to the girls. Recently by an appro
priation from the board. Principal
Boutelle fixed up that part' of the
ground in fine shape. There is a
well kept tennis court and a basket
ball court. These places are dally
the scene of much girlish activity,
both healthful and entertaining. The
building Is as neat and clean as a pin
the rooms are large, well lighted and
orderly and reflect credit upon the
teachers in charge of them. It
would seem from appearances that
each room vies with the other to see
which can make the best appearance.
This was not a forewarned visit, but
the normal conditions prevailed, and
It was a source of much gprprlse and
pleasure to see the way things are
being conducted.
That the board of education could
secure a liner lot ot teachers would
he hard to bellere. Their work is
systematic and well regulated, their
rooms are kept In good order, the
children are taught discipline and
neatness. At the recess all the
rooms are lined up aa the big lire
drills lu cities and each room march
ed in step out of the building where
they are dismissed for recess. The
same procot-3 Is gone through with
upon their reentering the building.

augurated for the benefit of tha far
mer’s and agriculturalists of the
State of Georgia will visit this city on
the 19 th ot February, and It wilt
prove a great benefit. All are In
vited to attend the. lectures and ex
periments that they will give and
there la no charge for anything. This
is an Innovation to say the leaat to
have a college come to where you
arc and not have to travel hundreds
of miles to attend one. It Is to be
hoped that all who can will take ad
vantage of this opportunity and at
tend.

The special educational train which
is to bo operated in February and
March by the state college of Agricul
ture In connection with the various
railroads is expected to reach Thom-
asvllle, Feb. 19th, about 8 a. m. The
schedule has been carefully made up
and we will follow It as closely as
possible, though of course there may
be some variation from the time In
dicated. All visitors should come
prepared to stay a little longer for
the train may be delayed, but they
should be at the station at the time
Indicated above, for If the train ar
rives promptly, aaslt will in most In
stances, those who are late mlsa a
part of the benefit which It Is hoped
our visit will oonfer. We expect to
stop an hour and a half at each placa.
During that time It la believed that

tical talks can be made and leave a
half hour for the Inspection of the

pared for one oi the large railroads,
says tbe Tribune, show that a week
ago there were 320,000 Idle freight
cars In tha United 8tates and about
8,000 locomotives laid up because of

teen per cent, of the total freight

8,000 trains, for the handling of
which four men are ordinarily re
