was carried out.
Mr. Knight rose to u point of order.
It was overruled by the speaker, and
he was told to be seated.
He wa# eomewhat slow in complying
with the request, and Robson, who was
standing behind him, took him by the
arm as if to mak»* him take his scat.
A scuffle then ensued, Mt. Knight re

house was immediately thrown into an
uproar, and several members rushed
toward the struggling men and suc

sometime before order was restored
and the final vote taken.

Cyradie of Potassium from Nitrogen
of Atmosphere.
Berkeley, Cal., D.=c. 13.—Professor
Edmund O’Neill, of the University of
California chemistry department, has
discovi : cd a new process of making
cyanide potassium from the nitro
gen of the atmosphere, a discovery
that will allow of the production of
the precious compound at a rate far
cheaper than it has been possible to
manufacture. Such an advantage can
be obtained by the new’ method that
It is hoped to secure a great reduc
tion in the cost of extracting gold
from the cyanide process and other
similar metallurgical operations.
Professor O’Neill's process Is analo
gous to the method of making nitric
acid f:om the nitrogen of tho air, a
result which has been worked out and
sneerssfully demonstrated at. Niagara
Falls.
