MACON, Ga.—Considerable
damage was caused to the peach
crop, especially to trees in full
bloom,' by the freeze Monday
night, according to Oliver Sharp,
in charge of thb U. S. bureau of
Entomology at Ft. Valley. The ex
tent of the damage will not. be
known with from twenty-four to
forty-eight hours he said.
The temperature tit Ft. Wiley
went td 23 degrees. Smudge fires
were kept burning nil night in
most of the large orchards and
aiding in keeping the temperature
four to eight degrees higher than
if the fires had not been burning.
