Can Use Bright Lights on
Unpaved Streets But
Unlawful On Paved
Streets Here.
City Council Wednesday night
amended section 534 of the city
code so that it is prohibited to
drive an automobile with glaring
or bright light on a paved street
in the city-
It is permissible to drive a car
with glaring or bright lights on an
unpaved street provided the owner
of the vehicle with the glaring
light dims it within 200 yards of
another vehicle coming his way-
The amendment was sought by
the Civil Service Commission who
some months ago launched a vig
orous campaign against traffic
violations. More arrests from
bright or glaring lights were made
than any other offense.
Policemen arrested cars with
bright lights on any street and the
commission was Deseiged with
complaints that on the unpaved
streets a car driver using dimmed
lights or frosted lights could not
see how to travel. The commis
sion then decided to provide for us
ing glaring or brignt lights only
unpaved streets.
