A CREAMERY PLANT FOR ATHENS
South Georgia Is taking the lead over this section
of the state in establishing creameries 'and buying
dairy cows in large numbers. Representatives from
the lower end of the state are canvassing North
Georgia for milch cows and paying a good price for
them. These people realize that creameries are pro-
k fiiable enterprises and that there is a ready money
|w market for every gallon of cream and sour milk pro
duced. A news item appearing in the state news
papers tells of the activities of the people at Way-
cross and Blacksheur, two enterprising South Geor
gia towns. It says:
A rare example of. one city co-operating with
another for the benefit of both is seen in the ac
tion of A. J. Strickland, of Blackshear, a leading
fnrmer of Pierce county, who states that he is
preparing to stock the farms of hia county with
high-grade cows in order that the proposed
Waycross creamery may be made a reality.
' f * Three carloads of fine dairy cowa^ have al
ready been sold at Blackshear and Mr. Strick-
land and T. B. Wylio, farm demonstrator _ of
Pierce are now in North Georgia purchasing
another carload for sale to the farmers. Half
of this carload will be Guernseys. L Jb
„ “Blackshear appreciates the co-operation by
Waycross and the Waycross press for the to-
■ bacco warehouses here, and the Blackshear peo- ,
r—jlo are ready to reciprocate by helping Way-, f
cross build up the production for a creamery,
Jlr. Strickland said. “We Intend to stock every
farm with good milch cows aiid pay the farmers
for their sour cream each week. Waycross is
the logical place for the creamery because of its
transportation facilities.” '
If South Georgia can succeed in promoting cream
eries, certainly this section of the state should sue-
ceeil. Rather than sell our dairy cows, wo should
be buying herds and establishing creameries. With
the stato college of agriculture located here we are
in better position than any other community in the-
siatc to operate industries of this kind. The infor
mation required for the successful conduct of such an
enterprise will be furnished cheerfully by those in
authority at the state college. Such a movement is
worth thinking of and it should receive the serious
consideration of the officers of the Chamber of
Commerce and of all citizens who are interested in
the building of a greater Athens and creating a firm
basis for sound business principles incorporated in
such an industry which is bound to prove success
ful nnd profitable.
NEW ENTERPRISES FOR THIS CITY
It we expect to grow and expand new . enter
prises’must be secured. Not only manufacturing
plants, but plants of other lines of commerce.
Small industries are great feeders to all communi
ties; the larger industries are bound to come and
they will tfike care of themselves. A commercial
hatchery with a hot house plant for raising potatoe,
tomato and cabbage plants could be made a profit
able enterprise. The four enterprises could be op
erated together with very little additional cost and
the revenue from each industry would prove pro
fitable. There is a market for such products; thou
sands.of dollars are being sent froip this section and
state annually for plants of all kinds which could be
raised here. There is no reason why this industry
could not be made a substantia] and growing busi
ness for those who will undertake the enterprise'.
It has proven a profitable business in other sections
hy not in Athens?

L S? , mad * a mistake in last week’s paper. A
good subscriber told us about it The aame day
there was a letter in our postoffice box that didn’t
belong to us. Wc called for 98 over the telephone
and got 198. We asked for a spool of No. 50 thread
and when we got home we found it was No. 60. The
train was reported thirty minutes late. We arrived
at the depot twenty minutes after train time and
tins strain was gone. We got our milk bill and
there was a mistake of 10 cents in our favor. We
felt sick and the doctor said we were eating too
much meat. Wo hadn’t tasted meat for two
months. The garage man said the jitney was miss-
tag because it needed a new timer. We cleaned a
spark plug and it has run fine ever since. Yes, wo
isade a mistake in last week’s issue.”

Motor Needs
Get in the habit of saying this to your
