• TUB POUL1RY DISPLAY.
Perhaps tho most complete display at
tho fair ia the poultry exhibit. Athens
ia well known for her poultry men, who
have borne off tho laurels from one or
more fairs this yaar. The coops are nicely
arranged under the grand stand, and in
each apartment, is a specimen of some
fine breed. Among tho many entries, wa
could not help cilling attention to the
following: Tl o Brown Leghorns of Mr-
Robert Hodgson are certaioly beautiliil.
In the Plymouth Rock liue, there aro
several entries—Maasrs. C. 1. Mell, 8-
M. Herrington, James Comer, J. E. Tab
inadge, C. G. Talmadgo and J. C. Oir,
Each of theso gentlemen have fine aped
mens, and the judges will have shard
time awarding the premium. Mr. James
Comer’s White Leghorns are very much
admired.
Thq trio of game chickens of Mr. T. C.
Crawford always have a crowd of ad
mirers around them. Athens ia a great
game chicken center.
The Wyandoltes, which are so popular
in our city at present, are well repre
sented at the fair. The chickens of
Judgo Howell Cobb, Mr. Frank Rbodos
and Mr. Yancey Harris, are certainly fine,
and are much admired. Judge Cobb's
have just returned home from Macon
where they carried off the prise.
Master Charlie Hodgson does'not con*
fine himself to chicken raising, but hsi
also on exhibition some fine Pekin ducks
of which he is very proud.
Master Yancey Gantt comes to the
front with a coop of fino Georgia geest*
Yancey, though young at tho business
will very probably carry off the first
prise in his line.
In the midst of the poultry display Is a
coop of lop-eared rabbits, exhibited by
Mr. J. B. Maddox. Tbiaia ona of the
the-most attractive features ol the fair,
aud large crowds continually block the
passage way a these curious little ani
mals.
There are s great msny fine chickens
here frotn all over Georgia.

~- VU»-MCY«M RACKS.
At 12 o’clock the bicycle races took
place and proved to be very interesting
In faot, bicycle racing has grown to be
quite a popular aport in Athena, and tha,
people look forward to them with inter
est, judging from tbe crowd that wit-
desaed them yesterday. The following
was the program:
nvs MILK FEOFESSIOlfAL SACK.
Tha event of the day was the five
mile race between R A Brantley, of Ma
con, and A G Crocker, of Boston, Mast.
The track was in very bid ord.-r, which
accounts for the time, which was rather
alow. Crocker set the pace almost the
entire length, but Brantley held his own
being only a few feet behind. Crocker
would putin his spurts on tba best por
tion of thd track while Brantley tried to
spurt on the hill. At the four and one-
half miles it looked as though Brantley
had the best of the Boston boy; but
when they reached the hill Crocker pass
ed him and took the outside track and
made a beautiful spurt *nd won tha race
in 20 minutes, aix seconds. The .track
will be put in good condition for to-day’s
races, which will be very interesting.
AMATSOK SACKS.
The one mile amtteur race was won by
Smith, of Chicago, w*th Yancey Harris
of Athens,' a good second.
TMb half-mile boy’s race was won by
