WOMEN HAVE NO FOu LA.
A STORY.
A Scotch Clergyman, whole wife
was a defetndant ot the famous Xan
rippe, (die fcold of antiquity ) in
gou g through a courfe of ie&urt-s
on the Revelation? of St. John, im
bibed from the abftrufe writer an
opinion, that the fex have no fouls
“and were incapable of future re
wards and punishments. Ic was no
fooner known in the country that
he maintained fuch a doftnne, than
he was fummoned before a Pn fo, -
ft ry of his brethren, to be dealt*
wi'ch according to his delinquency.
When he appeared at their bar, th< j
‘afked him, if lie really held fj here
tical ah opinion ? He rold them
plainly that he did. On defiring ro
be informed of his reafofts for fa
doing—Li the Revelation of Sc.
John the Divine,* laid he, you will
find this pa flag*—“And there was
fiience in Heaven for about the
fpace of half an hocr.” Now
I appeal to all of you, whether that
could p* fTibly have happened, had
there been any woman there ? And
fince there are none therr, chanty
forbids to imagine that they are in
a worfe
kwi, that they have no hr.metal
part, arid are exempted from being
accountable for all the node and
diftur banco they raife in this world.
The converfation havirg turned
in the prefen- e of Dr. FiankKn,
upon riches, and a young per (on in
the company havirg expit fled his
furprife that they ever fhould be
attended with fuch anxiety and foli
citucle, Inflaming one of his ac
quaintance, who, chough in pojfifef
fion of unbounded wealth, yet was
as bofy and more anxious than the
mofl arduous clerk in his count

Then chooflnga third, remarkable
for its fize and beatify, he prefented
that alfo. Ihe child, after many
ineffectual attempts to hold three,
dropped the laft on the carpet, and
burft into tears. See there, ,aid
the philofopher, thete is a litrie
man with more riches than he can
enjoy.

A woman being brought before
