good hay crop. It has been so dry
that the grass has grown very slew

The fig crop is good, and there is
lots of profit in figs when they are

The excursion train to Brunswick
Monday was a popular thing and 47
tickets were sold nerc. A special
coach was furnished for Vienna and
it stood on the side traok ail day
Sunday.
E. M. Gunn, a prominent oitizon
of Pinehurst, will, remove to Cor
dele August 1 and open a fancy and
family grocery store in the Central
hotel building. Mr. Gunn expects
to have one of the prettiest grocery
stores in the city,-•-Uordole News.

The Roberts block which was
recently purchased by .T J Cooper

by the lamented J AY Roberts with
a view ro putting a hotel up there
some time, but he did not live long
enough to complete his plans.

pasture hogs on it. This is demon
strated tbia year on the Hall place
recently purohasea by JB&HB
Davis and turned out. The hogs
took to the Johnson grass beds and
not only ate the grass, but literally
tore up the ground to get the roots.

Miss Alba Herrington’s school and
says they lino her so well that they
have offered her a handsome increase
of salary for next year, and they
are waiting for her to accept. The
spring term of that sohol closed with
an exhibition that would be a credit
to any community.
“Your humble servant spent Sunday
evening in ihe fruit farm at Tivola
and was shown many courtesies by
Manager John Logan. Thai farm
has 2500 botan plum trees, from
which it has shipped two solid ears
of plums Up to Saturday night,
besides the large shipments by
express and maybe another car on
the trees. Tnc peach packing and
shipping season will open at that
place soon, which will start money
flowing that way again.
John II Bed good, one of the best
citizens of Arabi, was here Tuesday
looking as cheerful as he was having
plenty of rain. lie says the Houston
High School is expected to open on
the first Monday in September with
the largest attendance of ill history.
The resignation of Prof. Lawson E
Brown, he says, will not effect tbo
school to any injury. Prof. W A
Cate will be in charge of the school,
and its regular and continuous
growth is expected. The success.
