Mr. Editor — ! t was ti v "rod ft>;-
fnno to attend the senior Exhibition,
ou Wednesday evening, the loth iusf.,
of the Stile.sboro Ins ilute, which pcss
ed off quietly, and reflected much cred
it upon all in crested.
Upon arriving and entering tin
spacious Hull, we found it crowded
from forum to rostrum, and it wns with
some diffiulty we succeeded in getting
a seat. After being seated, we took
a glance at the interior of the Hali,
and must confess that it was past de
scripttow; it was brilliantly illuminated
with lights of every hue and color, and
was decorated iu the most artistic and
tastseful manner with evergreens and
flower;?. Tiie stogo presented a lovely
sight, with its beautifully festooned
arches and wreaths of flowers o’er
head, and the rich, diversified material
of which the curtains were made, and
the manner in which they were painted
and penciled, added still more of beau
ty and loveliness to the scene. One
could almost imagine himself in a fai
ry land, surrounded with flowers of
perrennial beauty, and see and hem
the snow white Fays ns they flitted to
and fro before his vision, trilliug lays
of joy and happiness, as he gazed,
with an enraptured eye upon that
magnificently decorated stage. All ; t
once, our reverie was broken by the
low, soft strains of music, which wi.s
discoursed, in a very credible manner,
j by the Stilesboro String Band, after
i which the exercises of the evening
i were opened by the singing of a most
beautiful song by a group of young j
ladies and gent - men, with piano and
violin accompaniment and which had
a good effect upon the audience.—
Next in order, was the reading of com -
positions by the young ladies, and
declaiming by the young men. Tilt
corapo itions w T ere all well-written,
and read in a clear and audible tone
of voice, and plainly demonstrated the
fact thiil those young ladies had ap
plied themselves closely and studi >us
ly to tlia acquirement of knowledge.—
We do not propose to bo iuvidiou-,
but paunot refrain from expressing ou.
approbation of the beautiful and de
served tribute paid to the “Banner i i
the South,” and the illustrious and im
mortal heroes who forfeited their lives
defending it; the composition was full
of pathos and was read in a very feel
iug manner, and we daresay, fount;
a hearty welcome in every true South
ern heart. We are glad to know that
the young ladies of the South still
cherish and adore the “Stars and Bars’’
and the Cause of which it was the
symbol. We love the “Bonnie Blui
Flag,” although there hovers around li
many sorrowful recollections, blasted
hopes, anticipations once all radiant
with the prospect of Liberty and In
depcnce, but alas! too soon frustra
ted and banished, like mist before the
rays of the morning sun—yet for uil
this, we love it, and wall evei !
I lie declamations of the young men,
were chaste and eloquent, and spoke
well for their zeai iu striving to ascend
the rugged mount of knowledge, which
culminates in glory and renown. We
wish them every success, and may they
reach the shining goal, and realize all
their present anticipations.
The valedictory speech was well
timed and very appropriate, and the
speaker paid a merited compliment to
Mr. Hudson, who responded in a beau
tiful and pathetic speech, in which he
urged the students to persevere and
the time was not for distant when
their labors would be crowned with
success; he entreated them to build
upon the “rock, Carist Jesus,” and
when they shall have taken passage on
the stygian stream —death, they would
be enabled, through Him, to reach that
“House not made with bauds, etein.d
in the Heavens.”
The exercises were concluded by
the enactment of the minor drama,
“ Foodies.” The young ladies and
gentleman acquitted themselves very
well, indeed, in this play, and the in
imitable Mr. “Toodles,” alias Billy
Patterson; invariably “brought down
the house.”
We have no hesitancy in asserting
that this was one of the most interest
ing Exhibitions we ever attended, and
reflected much credit upon teacher and
pupils.
The enjoyment of the occasion was
greatly enhanced by the spirited mu
sic so skillfully discoursed by the
Stilesboro Band. Wo congratulate
the citizens of Stilesboro upon their
flattering prospects for the advance
ment of education, and hope to have
the exquisite pleasure of attending
other Exhibitions at the Stilesboro
Institute. J, T. G.
An apothecary’s hoy was lately sent
to leave at one house a box of pills,
and at another six live fowls. Con
fused on the way, he left the pills where
the fowls should have gone, and the
fowls at tho pill place. The folks who
received the fowls were astonished at
reading the accompanying direction:
“Swallow one every two hours!”
A young wife caressing her lap-dog,
cried out with transport: “Oh, my
jewel! you are the dearest puppy in
the world—after my husband!”

‘BAD BLOOD. 7
“THE LIFE IS THE BLOOD*”
From it we derive our strength, beauty,
and mental capabilities. It is tiie centre of
our being, around which revolves all that
makes existence happy. When this source
is corrupted the painful effects are visible
in many shapes, prominent among which is
SCROFULA.
This is ji taint or infection of the human
organism, and probably no one is wholly
free from it. It exhibits itself in various
shapes—as Ulcers and Sores, Decayed Hones,
Diseased Scalp, Sore Eyes, Weak and Diseas
ed Joints, St. Vitus’ Dance. Foul Discharg
es from the Nostrils, Eruptions, Glandular
Swellings, Throat Affections, Rheumatism,
Heart Affections, Nervous Disorders, Bar
renness, Disorders of the Womb, Dropsy.
Syphillitie Affections, Liver Complaint, Salt
Rheum, Dyspepsia, Neuralgia, Loss of Man
hood and General Debility.
It lias been the custom to treat these dis
eases with Mercury aud other Mineral sub
stances, which, though sometimes producing
a cure, often prove injurious and entails
misery in after life. The long known inju
rious properties of these so-called alteratives
and purifiers lias led the philanthropical
man of science to explore the arena of na
ture, the result of which has been the discov
ery of vegetable products which possess the
power of eradicating these Taints from the
Blood.
