GENERAL.
Iu education the process of self-devel
opment should be encouraged to the full
est extent. Children should be led to
make their own investigations and draw
their own inferences. They should he
told as little as possible and induced to
disoover as much as possible. Humani
ty has progressed solely by self-iu«truc-
tiou; and that to achieve the best results,
each mind must progress somewhat af
ter the same fashion, is continually prov
ed by tiie marked success of self-made
men. Those who aaie been brought up
under the ordinary school drill aud have
carried away with them tbe idea that ed
ucation is practicable only in that style,
will think it hopeless to make children
their uwti teachers.—Spencer.
