tfi amusing little story
afloat that a certain dame of this
town, and who hy the way is a most
charming hostess, had arranged to
entertaiu a number of her friends
with a “lawn party,” but a few days
ago there chanced a calf about the
plsoe. There would be nothing wrong
about this bad not the mischievous
rascal broke in and ale up the lawn,
the lady was annoyed and sorrow
was brought to the hearts of her in
tended guests. Now, we wouldn’t
for the world suggest the identity of
the lady, and we have considerable
don Pis as to the whereabouts of the
calf, but we have been reliably in
formed that he will not again break
into her arrangements. It is said
that the guests “kept off the grass”
on the appointed night as there was
no party. •
Reports come in from Fowltown
in the lower part of the coun.y, of
an unusual oco trronce which took
place ne«ar there last Tuesday. Dur
ing a thunder storm of some severity
a small negro cabin was struck by
lightning and nearly demolished it,
chairs, tables and other furniture
were literally torn to pieces. At the
time of the stroke a halt dozen negro
women were in the house and the
remarkable part of the affair was
that none of them were injured
further than a few' cuts received by
flying pieces of glass. The negroes
of the community were considerably
wrought up oyer the offair.
It will be a matter of interest to
the friends of Rev. C. R. Nisbet,

has been called to the pastorate of
the Westminster Presbyterian
church in Atlanta.. Mr. Nisbet,
while a resident of Bainbridge made
hosts of personal friends and his de
parture from here was greatly re
gretted.
