Mr. John Botts, who waB formerly
with M. D. Calhoun of this city, at
present representing a large pants
factory in South and North Carolina,
is at home for a vacation.
Hon, Paul MoKeown, of Concord,
Fla., ex-member of the Florida
house ot representatives, and a prom
inent and wealthy merchant and real
estate dealer, was in Bainbridge
Tuesday.
Mrs. Diffee and children retnrned
Wednesday from a visit to her
mother in Atlanta. Mr. Diffee has
rented the new Scott house on
Broughton street and will go to
housekeeping in a week or two.
Misses Fleming, of Newton, leave
to-day for Boston. Daring their visit
here they have been delightfully en
tertained and it ia with regrets that
their friends see them depart.
The rapid growth of Bambridg
has been phenomenal. Its future
growth will be startlidg. Now is
the time. to move to Bainbridge,
invest in real estate, go into business
or go to manufacturing and reap the
benefits that will come to all.
Hon. John E. Donalson and his
son, Ea?le M* Donalson. were in the
city for a short time on Tuesday.

E. H. Hammond was in the city

Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Toole have 1

Geo, D. McCall, of Atlanta, but
formerly agent of the Plant System
at Bainbridge, was in the city this
week stopping at the Bon Air. Mr.
MoCall made quite a number ot
friends during the time be was a res
ident of Bainbridge, who are always
glad to weloome him baok.
The colored baseball teams of
Bainbridge and Quinoy, came tos
getber for a test of skill on the dia»
mond last Monday and Tuesday.
The Bainbridge club proved to be
too fast and cunning for the Quinoy
novices, who consequently were
compelled to take a good drubbing.
A party of bright young people
went down to Panacea Springs last
Saturday for a week’s house party.
The hoBts were Messrs. Jaok Bower,
Earle Donalson, Oliver Fleming,
Earnest Graves, of Bainbridge and
Lamar Hill, of Atlanta. The gaesta
were a bevy of oharming young la-
dios, and were Misses Lois Rnssell,
Hortense Pohlman, of Bainbridge,
Leslie Butts, of Brunswiok, Moy AN
fred, of Tallahassee and Mande
Beardsley, of Memphis. The party
was under the ohaperonage of Mrs.
Oliver, They have been spending
the week merrily with the amuse-
raents afforded at this popular res
sort, suoh as danoing, boating, bath
ing, fishing, and if the truth was
known a wee bit of flirting. They
return to Bainbridge to-inorrow.

Big Ears of Corn.
For several days there was on
exhibition at the Oak City Drug
Stole rwo very large ears of corn
from the plantation of Mr. Gordon
Bower. They attracted the atten
tion of every one on account of
their unusual size.
They measured n 3-4 inches in
length and 9 inches in circumfer
ence. Mr. Bower says that he has
about twenty-five acres of corn
that will correspond to this sams
pie, that it is a new variety and
that he expects to make about 40
bushels to the acre. Mr. Bower
is an excellent farmer as well as
successful lawyer.
A Well Earned Vacation.
Rev. J. R. Jester, pastor of the
Baptist church, and family left
Thursday for a month’s vacation
which has been given this efficient
minister by his appreciative cons
gregation.
They go first to the Isle of
Palms, near Charleston, and after
a short stay there they will go to
Ha. sville, S. C., the home of Mrs.
Jester’s father, where they will
visit for a week or more. Afters
wards they go to Ashville for the
balmy air of the mountains, where
they will stay for a time, and res
turn in about a month’s time by
way of Atlanta to Bainbridge.
The best wishes of his entire
congregation accompany Mr. Jes
ter and family in their journey for
health and recreation.
