Editor and Publisher.
THURSDA7. DECEMBER 14,189°.
The present session of the Georgia
legislature is nearing its end.
Circumstance have a great deal to do
in shopiug our destinies.
The Willingham bill is a thing of the
past. The senate could not see like the
house, or saw better perhaps in its own
estimation.
New Paper.
The Walton Tribune is anew psper
that will be published at Monroe, Geor
gia, under the editorship of Mr. W. G.
McNelloy, who up to a recent date had
editorial charge of the Lav renceville
Herald. The first issne will make its
appearance tho first week in January
next and will start off under flattering
circumstances. Mr. McNelleyis a good
news paper man a’d a man of brain and
no doubt will make a success of The
Tribune. The politics of the paper will
be democratic and as it does not require
a superabundance of brain to edit the
o'd party papers, Brother McNelly can
devote much of his time to literature
and scientific questions and lookiug af
ter his contemporary, tho Walton News.
Success to you Brother McNelly.
A Cheering Letter For
All Populists To Read.
Fountain Hill near Conyers, Ga ,
December 9th, 1899
Judge A. G. Lamar, Editor Economist,
Winder, Ga.
Dear Sir: —Sixteen hours after shak
ing j our hand in Atlanta on the sth
inst. I landed o. k. in the oity of Mem
phis, and was the first member of the
conference to register at ‘‘Hotel Frau
fioli.” however, in a few hours several
noted mid-road populist name* Were
spread on the register. It was no hard
job for the average observer to oonclude
that the conference was of but one mind
and a single thought and that was to
fight for true populism. It should be
pushed henceforth with all the power
and energy of those who love country,
home and ohildren.
Steps were taken for a meeting of
the National Executive Committee at
no distant day, possibly about February
12th, at Chioago, to set the date for our
national convention.
Let every pi pulist in Georgia buckle
on his armor for a clean fight against
our oommou enemy, “The Demoortio
party. A party that has kept the South
poor—turned the masses out of doors
and made industrial slaves of more
than two-thirds of the southern white
people, who by law are supporting a
landed and ironey aristocracy. We
will have no Bryan iu it this time, but
a populist as true to the principles of
oar party as the ueedle is to the pole.
For over thirty years we have been
voting for sentiment, a sentiment that
has kept in power a party uuv orthy its
constituents. Let that sentiment die
the death of the wicked and from now
on vote for principles—principles that
God approves. Equal rights, equal op
portunities, equal blessings, equal
burdens for all, the rook on which this
republic was built, and on which it
must stand.
If every populist iu Georgia will do
his duty, the next legislature of ‘ thi
grand old state will be filled with meu
who endorse those priuciples—meu who
love country, truth, morals, virtue and
sobriety and who fulfill every promise
to a “jot and tittle.”
Georgia populist, our oause is right,
uusheath your sword, strike again or
our liberties are lost. Make our next
state convention the largest ever held.
We can if we wilL Will we regain the

The City Ticket.
The city ticket put out a few weeks
ago seems to have little opposition and
we trust no other ticket will be run.
There is no necessity for a contest, and
it will be much better for every interest
of Winder if all will unite on the gen
tlemen named and. have a quiet elec
tion. What we need now is for every
citizen of Winder to become fully
aroused to the Importance of unity and
palling together for every thing that
will build up our little city and show
up ita many advantages* The men se
leced are all men of enterprise and pash,
and while there are many more gentle
men who would have made up equally
as good a ticket as the one already out,
there could not have baen a better se
lection, and hence we think that every
one should be satisfied and decide that
next year will be one of prosperity and
growth for our city surpa; sing any year
in its past history. The Economist has
no personal motives in the matter nor
favors to ask. It desires the good will
and friendship of every man within the
incorporate limits, but we are frank to
say, that we think it unwise and un
necessary at this time to place two
tickets in the field.

A SURE CURE FOR CROUP.
Twenty-five Years’ Constant Use with
out a Failure.
The first indication of croup is hoarse
ness, and in a child subject to that dis
ease it may be taken as a sure sign of
the approach of an attack. Following
this hoarseness is a peculiar rough
cough. If Chamberla n’s Cough Reui
edy is given as soon as the child becomes
hoarse, or even after the croupy cough
appears, it will prevent the attack, Ii
is used in many thousands of homes in
this broad land and never disappoints
the anxious mothers. We have yet to
learn of a single instanoe in which it
has not proved effectual. No other pre
paration can showsuch a record—twen
ly-flve years’ constant nse without a
fatl are. For sale by Winder Drug Cos.
