It has been suggested that as the
rainy season has set in cur city fathers
be petitioned by the citizens at large to
purchase a few boats and put them in
the lake on Broad street from theG. J.-
&S. depot to Candler street. It would
be a favorite resort for tha young ladies
and gentlemen as boat riding is a great
enjoyment, and ‘Moonlight on the Lake’
could be sung with telling effect by
some of onr musical tallaut while glid
ing through this beantifnl sheet of wa
ter. We hope the chairman will favor
the suggestion and so recommend to the
mayor andcouncil at the next meeting.

We are glad to know there is a prob
ability of Btatbam having a cotton fac
tory. The citizens of that progressive
little town met last week for the pur
pose of formulating plans aud raising
stock and we hope they will sucoeed. A
cotton factory is what every town needs
and what every town that has any pub
lic spirit and enterprise in it will have
in the south before mauy vears. If the
citizens of Statham will decide they are
going to have a factory they can get it.
It simply takes unity of action and pnsh.
