Messrs. W. B. Jordan and H. S.

farmers of Mulberry were in Winder
yesterday and gave us a pleasant call.
Mr. John W. Hill of our city bought
a beautiful lot of 15 acres from Mr. P.
P. Jennings this week which he expects
to improve. This land is out on Broad
street just beycnd the beautiful home
of Mr. Youug Daniel and is valuable
property.

The Millinery openings first of the
week of J. T. Strange & Cos. and Miss
Carrie Boyd & Cos. were both largely
attended. They were the finest dis
plays ever made in Winder.
Mr. A. N. Nowell, the Harness man

New Telephone Line.
We are informed by Dr. G. W. DeLa-
Perriere that, during the spring and
summer anew telephone line will be
built from here to intersect with the
Jefferson and Athens line two miles bi
low Jefferson, giving us a short line to
Jefferson and Athens. This new line
will be built out of heavy wire and sub
stantially constructed in every way.
A contract has also been let for a nice
Booth for the telephone office here so
that you can step inside of the booth,
close the door and have a private con.

improvement in our telephone service.
The Southern Bell Telephone Cos. will
build within the next 60 days, the finest
line in the state from Atlanta to Gaines
ville at a cost of $28,000. It will have a
doable circuit—one circuit will not be
tapped between Gainesville and Atlan
ta This will give us a shorter rout to
Atlanta and not be delayed in the con
nections. This will be a great advan
tage to Winder.

was taken suddenly ill last Monday

ments at Chandler’s, Santa Fe and
Clarksboro. He will give these places
an extra appointment before he stops
going round.

Organized.
A large conclave of the Knights of
Damon was organized here Monday
night with the following officers: A
G. Lamar, Commander; A. il O’Neal,
Vice Commander; S. P Speigel, Pre
late; R. L Mobley, Secretary and
Treasurer; W. H. Qnarternnn, Collec
tor; J. R. Smith, Sr. Warden; Henry
Hosch, Jr. Warden; W. E. O’Neal, Sen
tinel; Dr. G. E. Daniel, Medical Exam
iner. Supervising Deputy, R. L .Tones
and Speoial Deputy, A. F. Neal have
done excellent work since coming here
for this fraternal order, which is one of
the best orders known for a safe iu->u

ures add much to the popularity of the
Knights of Damon, aud Bevera) ladies
have already joined with a prospect of
mere in a short while.
There are a number of persons who
waut some inßuradce on the fraternal
plan, and this conclave will remain
open for charter members a few days
longer, to enable all such to come in.
Messrs. Jones and Neal have made
many friends in Winder during their
stay of a week or more, and we feel no
hesitancy in recommending them as
honorable gentlemen and faithful work

for the S. A. L. railroad at this place
