Democrat for Office

Tip here in Georgia the prog res

a Democrat fo\ office only. Pro
gressiveness is a political fad
used by the demagogue to eon
vince the rank and file that he is
better equipped and more deserv

crat, who has been a democrat
all the time and never misses an
opportunity to prove it.

New Improvements.
The necessity for anew pas
senger station at this place lias
opened tile way for the Seaboard
to meet the increasing demands
upon it freight facilities and the
new depot which has recently
been completed was the tirsl step
in beginning extensive improve
ments to meet these needs.
The old passenger depot has
been moved down the tracks to
a point opposite the intersection
of Sage St. ami Seaboard Ave.
when an extension of Sage street
is made, and lias been remodeled
and will be used as a freight de
pot.
Several side-tracks in the south
end of the yard have been extend
ed, new ones laid, and a complete
change in the tracks in the north
end between the passenger sta
tion and the junction has been
made, several thousand feet of
new tracks being laid, so that at
present the Seaboard has over
four miles of trackage in the
yards in this c.ity.
The old Woodruff foundry
building, wfhich was on the right
of way, has been torn down, and
many other impovements are to
he made.
With this increase in facilities
the warehouses, mills, factories,
and other enterprises in the man
ufacturing district will experi
ence no difficulty in handling
their products with dispatch.
W inder is steadily growing and
her business men and citizens ap
preciate the efforts the road is
making to handle their business
quickly and satisfactorily.

Evidence Against Him.

How Times Have Changed
A law journal is authority
for tin* statement that fifty years
ago a coroners jury in a southern
state after a preliminary exami
nation of a homicide reported
‘ that the deceased committed
suicide by calling Col. Calhoun
Thompson a liar” bn fine con
trust do we read in tile daily pa
pers today that a member of the
Tennessee legislature is t.-rmed
by a brother senator a “mcn
strous liar” and in return for
tin* compliment the flattered de-
nounces his flatterer as “beneath
his notice atad his reputation for
double dealing trickery and chic
anery too well established to war
rant any consideration being giv
en his ravings.” The facts be
ing thus ascertained they are
placed upon the milhutes and the
next business it taken up in its
order. We are thus enabled to
mark time and the changes it
lias wrought. From a term of
reproach, the use of which would
almost invariably produce sad
and fun real results the “short
and ugly word” now applied in
polite society is inspiration for
tin* formation of an “Ananias
Club” and instead of being at
one time legally denominated
the “first lick” it is now produc
tive of a beatic smile upon the
face of the one du whom it is
conferred. —Bartow Tribune.
Good Advice.
A town, unlike a city is not
place to foster jealousies and
nourish contentions. All should
learn to know that whatever wil.
conduce to the welfare of a town
cannot injure her citizens. The
disposition made manifest by lie**
citizens point to her downfall or
her rise. The character of peo-
pie make the town, not her struc
tures, towering houses, domes
and monuments, and when peo
ple lose interest in the promotion
of their town they need not hope
to thrive. Harmony among the
people of a community is indica
tive of its progress. Farmers can
not be at variance with one Jin
other and prosper; merchants can
not, the churches cannot, nor can
any similar organization or com
munity.—Dallas New Era. I
Go forth with a smile upon
your face and you will return be
lieving that most peopLe are good
natured. Wear a frown and you
will find plenty of quarrelsome
people.—Dallas New Era.
The Girl of Long Ago,
Backward, turn backward, oh,
time in your flight; give us a
girl whose skirts are not tight;
give us a girl whose charm, many
or few are not exposed by too
much peek-a-boo; give us a girl,
no matter what age. who won’t
use the street as a vaudeville
stage; give us a girl not too
sharply in view; dress her in
skirts the sun can’t shine thru.—
