CARD FROM MR DEAN.
\1 v attention has been called to the
statement published approximating th*
amouunt I had received as Solicitor for
the first 17 months and IS days that I
served on the fee system. This esti

There is always expense attached to
a crop. It generally takes the “bull”
and the “steer” both.
I spent a vfh.de year running and get
ting ready for my work. Mv time and
expense in the race amounted to over
sii,.">(Mi. The expense of traveling the
circuit and buying everything that I
use is about SI,OOO a year. This totals
*10,500. Deduct this and it leaves about
sl4 500 net, or about sd.doo per year.
This is verv near what the office will

PUBLIC SPEAKING AT COURT
HOUSE HERE ON SATURDAY
I
If you had fought through two years
of modern warfare, nway from loved
ones and home, undergone the hard
ships of camp life, slept on frozen mud
and continually in danger of gas, shells
and continually hearing the whiz of an
grv machine gun bullets, all for your
country’s sake, the sake of your loved
ones at home and for the sake of hu- 1
inanity when mad Kaiser of Germany
with his mot to of “ Got t Mitt Ins” and,
his cry of “ Dor Tag” had determined j
to put the world under his feet, with
an armistice declared, would you stop
striving for the highest and best for
your own state and country 1
Major Gen. Sturgis, a regular army
officer, who won victories in France, up
on assuming command of <’amp Gordon
after the cessation of hostilities said to
his men and officers that the war had
been won. the Hun stopped and that all
true Americans must keep up the fight
at home in order that the highest ideals
of the American home might be kept
alive and that the Bolsheviki might he
overcome.
This is the sole purpose of the Amer
ican Legion. It stands lor all that it
fought for on the bloody fields of Flan
ders and the other hat tic fields of France
It stands for no other: its fight is a
righteous one and it w ill stand the test.
It is not our purpose here to cover
the entire field, suffice it to say that as
an organization ol veterans of the
World War, standing for all that is
high and host, it has been attacked and
is merely nsserting its rights hv answer
ing its enemies by facts and making a
defense that is in accord with its ideals
and purposes, at the same time, carry
ing on its fight for the highest nnd best
for its state nnd country.
At the Court House Saturday after
noon at .'5:00 o’clock, h’epresentatives
of the American Legion will speak nnd
give you the history, purposes and an
idea of the American Legion. These
men represent the State organization,
arc red-blooded Americans fought in
France nnd will give yon a speech that
you will enjoy nnd at the same time will
not give yon offense no matter what
your views are.
Men who have heard Mr. Stockbridge
and Mr. Sirmon are high in their praise
of the manner in which they answer
the attacks made on the American Lc
gion. It is presumed that everyone is
open to facts and conviction. If you
nre, come out nnd hear these ex service
men speak.
The Aferican Legion is not wholly re
sponsible for the coining of these men
|to Winder. Representative citizens,
leaders of the county nnd town, in a
large number have asked that these men j
ally might hear them and thereby get
their side of the matter as well as that
of those making the attack. And in
this light they are coming to Winder
with good feeling for all and ask that
you get fact- as they are, remove all
prejudice from your mind and make a
decision for what you consider best for
the Grand Old Empire State of Georgia
arid the Greatest nation on earth, the
Lnitcd States of America.
