ER LIMITS USE WHEAT FLOUR
Under the new baking rules issued
by the Food Administration, the sub
stitute for wheat flour content of all
bread and rolls must amount to 25
per cent. The substitute content
hereafter required in various products
follow:
Sweet yeast dough goods, 33 1-3
per cent; crackers, 15 per cent; cook
ies and ice cream cones, 33 1-3 per
cent; cakes, 33 1-3 per cent; pies,
83 1-3 per cent; fried cakes, 33 1-3
per cent; pastry, 33 1-3 per cent;
batter cakes, waffles, quickbreads—
such as muffins and Boston brown
bread 66 2-3 per cent.
Under the new ruling no public eat
ing house may serve more than 2
ounces of bread and rolls or more
than 4 ounces of quick bread to any
one person at any one meal.
With customers who buy loaf bread
bakers are urged to promote the three
quarter pound loaf, following the
Food Administration’s request that
the 12-ounce loaf be used where the
16-ounce loaf was used before.
Bakers are urged to introduce
“quick breads” as a wheat saving
measure. These quick breads, includ
ing muffins, baking powder biscuits,

The special meetings which began
at the Jackson Methodist church Sun
day will continue for several days,
announcement as to the closing to be
made later. The pastor, Rev. S. R.
England, is doing the preaching, and
services are held at 10 o’clock in the
morning and at 8 o’clock in the even
ing.
Music is being furnished by a large
chorus and orchestra, and is a deserv
edly popular feature of the services.
Regardless of denominational lines
the people of the entire city are join
ing with the Methodist congregation
in a hearty spirit of co-operation.
This beautiful spirit of community
interest speaks well for the interest
displayed, and will serve to draw the
church people of the town closer to
gether. Dr. England is preaching
some strong sermons and the good
that it is hoped to accomplish will be
long felt throughout the entire com
munity.

The annual meeting of the Georgia
Educational Association and the
State Superintendents Association
will be held in Savannah Thursday
Friday and Saturday. A. program con
taining many strong features has
been arranged for the three days

ern hospitality, will entertain the vis
itors in a royal manner.
Several educators of nation wide
prominence .will be present and ad
dress the gathering. Hon. P. P. Clax
ton, United States Commissioner of
Education, will be among the distin
guished visitors. Others almost as
well known will lend their presence
to the success of the convention.
Many problems of vital interest to
the teachers will be discussed during
the three days.
Prof. Hugh Mallet, superintendent
of the Butts county schools, Prof. W.
P. Martin, superintendent of the
Jackson public schools, are among
those from here who will attend.

JACKSON BOY STATIONED
AT UNIVERSITY OF OHIO
Friends of Mr. Charles Harp, son
of the late Mrs. A. B. Harp, will be
interested to know that he is sta
tioned at the military school of aro
nautics, University of Ohio, at Co
lumbus. He was formerly attached
to an aerial squadron in Texas. Mr.
Harp writes that he is likely to go
across almost any time now. Before
the war he was a member of the New
Orleans (La.) Daily States.

Notice is hereby given that the
Central Georgia Power Company,
Macon, Ga., has made application to
the Railroad Commission of Georgia
for authority to increase its power
rates to all patrons, where service is
now- being furnished under a contract
or otherwise, to a scale of rates which
it is stated will yield approximately
fifteen per cent increase in its gross
revenues. The above stated applica
tion has been assigned for hearing
before the Railroad Commission of
Georgia at its meeting to be held on
Thursday morning at 10 o’clock a. m.
in its office in the State Capitol, At
lanta, May 23rd, 1918, at which time
full opportunity will be afforded ail
interested parties of being heard.
