The First National Bank of Fort Gaines
has complied with all the requirements
of tho law and is authorized to begin
business.
Tho rooms adjoining the Alliance
warehouse have been nicely finished
and handsomely furnished and supplied
with a fireproof vault and a safe
absolutely burglar proof. Business
was begun to-day with Messrs. A. W*
Holley and R. E. l’cterson in charge
as cashier and assistant cashier, he¬
spectively.

Owing to the rapid movement of cot
tou for the past few weeks the tailroad
authorities have experienced some dif¬
ficulty in furnishing cars sufficient for
its transportation, and freight of this
character became somewhat congested
at various points along the line. But
the situation here has been relieved
for the present. One day this week
Superintendent J. II. Hall and Train
Master G. L. Candler, recognizing Fort
Gaines as one of the important slap¬
ping points along the line, and with
characteristic accommodation and
watchfulness of the interests of the
old reliable Central on their division,
came down with a special train of flat
cars and moved several hundred bales
of the accumulated surplus. Their
prompt response to the demands of the
situation is appreciated by our olton
buyers and business men generally.

Immediately following the conclusion
of the marriage ccrcmorny the couple
took the train for an extended bridal
trip. They will visit Cincinnati, Hunt¬
ington, W. Va., the Mammoth Caves
in Kentucky, Lousvillo and Nashville
before returning to Sheffield.

Arrangements have been made with
the Alkahest Lyceum of Atlanta to
furnish our town for the coming sea¬
son a series of five entertainments.

exceedingly fortunate in securing the
