COCHRAN WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Defeats Fast East Point Team to First And Third Games
Cochran tvon two games out of
three against East Point on the
home diamond which entitles them
to the Amateur Championship of
Georgia.
The first game resulted in a score
of 3to 1 in favor of Cochran. The
second game 10 to one favor of
East Point and the tnird game 1 to
3 in favor of the home team.
All three games were well patro
nized, and great enthusiasm prevail
ed when (Tehran won the champ
ionship in a hard fought contest.
The E;\st Point team is composed
of some of the best Amateur players
in the state and they are
royal good fellows. Good fellow
ship prevailed between the two
teams during the entire contest and
the East Point boys left Cochran,
with prasises for the royal hospi
tality with which they were enter
-1 taind.
We give below a detailed account
of the games won by Cochran.
There is nothing to say about the
second game except some of our
players went to pieces and East
Point, with big “Joe” in the box,
put it all over Cochran to the tune
of 10 to 1, however the hoys fully
redeemed themselves Wednesday by
putting up a first class game, de
feating the fast East Point team in
a score of 4 to 3.

V What it took to defeat the Chani-
Cochran had it. It was not
luck o r accident that did the work
hut hard playing, good pitching,
good catching, good batting and
fielding. It takes that kind of
work to win from East Point.
Goe. D. Coley umpired all "three
games with satisfaction to both
teams. Geo. makes a good impar
tial umpire and understands the
game well.

Hewell popped a high fly and
was safe when Suddeth dropped the
hall. Wise attempted to sacrifice
Hewell forced him out third to sec
ond, Morris singled advancing Wise
to second. At this point Lester
settled down and struck out Wright
and Duke. 0 Runs, 1 hit, 1 Error.
Norris singled going to second on
passed ball. Neal doubled over
center fieldeis head scoring Norris,
Jackson grounded out pitcher to
first. Burns singled scoring Neal,
Hendricks out short to first. 3

2nd Jtilling. Polland ground out
third to first, Gardner lined out to
short, Coleman out pitcher to first.

Taylor lined out to third base,
Lester struck out, Vonderaux did
the same. 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Errors.
3rd. Inning. Pickett lead off
with a tivo bagger to center, the
next three men were struck out by
Lester, pulling himself out of a had
hole (Hewell, Wise and Morris.)

Norris Hied out to center, Neal
out second to first, Jackson singled
and on wild pitch took second.
Burns singled to left field and Jack
son scored Burns,- taking second,
when left fielder fumbled the hall,
Suddetli struck out. 1 Run, 2
Hits, 2 Errors.
4th, Innirg. Wright flied out to
first base, Duke grounded out third
to first. Roland flied out to center.

Taylor singled, Lester hit into a

In the third game of the series,
Cochran defeated East Point by the
score of 4 to 3.

i Ellison for first base and Bowden
for short stop. The outfield was

left field and Lester in right field.

out to short stop; Riggins was out
short to first: Hewell was safe when
short stop errored his grounder;
Hewell out when he attempted to
pilfer second.
Bowden the first man up for
Cochran drove a long single
to right field, Suddeth sacrificed
fluid to first; Burns out short
to first: Ellison did the same.
2nd Inning. Wright struek out,
Wise popped a high lly to the pit
cher; Polland out short to first.
Taylor singled, Norris sacrificed
out pitcher to first; Neal out third
to first; Lester out third to first.
3rd. Inning. Norris struck out,
Dukes did likewise; Skelton singled
over short; Kingery out short to
first.
Vandoraux popped up to third and
was out, Bowden was out second to
first: Suddeth Hew out to left field.
4th lining. Riggins struck out
so did Hewell; Wright flew out to
left field.

through short, scoring Bowden and

left field, Lester out short to first,
Norris taking second, Vonderaux
singled. Norris taking third, Bow
den popped up to tlie pitcher.
Bth Inning. Morris, Dukes and
Skelton were fanned.
Suddeth was safe when third
baseman errored his grounder,
Burns sacrificed pitcher to first,
Ellison flied out to left field, Taylor
got a single scoring Suddeth, Norris
laced out a two bagger, Taylor tak
ing third, Neal got a, timely single
scoring 'Taylor and Norris. At this
point Skelton, Eastman’s cracker,
was removed from the mound,
Duke relieving him, Lester struck
out retiring the side.
Oth Lining. Kingery was safe
when Vonderaux errored hi s
grounder, Riggins singled to right
field, Lester thinking it a foul did
not return it promptly allowing
Kingery to score and Riggins to
take second, Hewell singled, scor
ing Riggins, Wright fouled out to
first. Wise Hit. a hot grounder to
second which allowed Neal to start
one of the quickest double plays
ever seen in these parts, Neal to
Bowden to Ellison.
