i A Minute Description of the Building as it
will Appear When Completed.
Tlie information was given out in
last week’s Breeze that the contract
had been let for the biHlding of Coffee
county’s new courthouse. All the
preliminary arrangements incident to
the beginning of the work have been
perfected, and we are assured that
the work will begin within a week.
The contract was awarded to T. C.
Thompson <fc Bros, of Birmingham,
Alabama, Ur $14 ; 6l)5,00.
The building is to be of brick, two
stories high The dimensions are S4
xfiO feet. The first floor will be taken
up by eight rooms to be occupied by
officers, with a ten foot

the front entrance. The vestibule
will be 16x16 feet, the floor laid of
Georgia marble tile. The grand jury
.room will also be on the first floor.
There are to be two stairways lead
ing to the second lioor, one for the
convenience of the public and one for
the convenience of the lawyers, jurors
and court officers.
- The main court room will be 40x50
feet, the bar 25x50 feet. The bar floor
will be raised eight inches higher
than the main lloor and the judges
stand sixteen inches higher than the
bar floor. It is estimated that the
court room and gallery will afford a
seating capacity of 700, which will be
sufficient fo all purposes for genera
tions to come.
The interior walls are to he plaster
ed throughout, three coat work, with
sand finish. The entire main roof
will he of the best quality of -Georgia
or Virgnia slate, put on by men who
understand their business. Rome,
number 1, pressed brick will be used
throughout the building.
Hie tower will he nearly one hund
red feet high. In describing the kind
of clock to be furnished the specifica
tions says: “To be furbished and si t

Clock, four five-foot dials, to have
black background, gilt lexers and dots
to have wire ropes and c vet iron weight*
of sufficient heft to run clock, also
provide a 2000 lb bell, 77 parts I got

tin. All frame and Ftriking attach
ments to be left in perfect order, and
the clock must be guananteed for live
years by the Guilders, to keep accur
ate time. This clock to cost not ex
ceeding $750 00 f. o. b. cars Boston,
