REVIEW — OPENING PERIOD OF
CHRIST’8 MINISTRY
GOLDEN TEXT—For God so loved
the world, that He gave HI* only be
gotten Son, that whosoever belleveth
In Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.—John 3:16.
FRIMARY TOPIC—Things to Re
member About Jeaus.
JUNIOR TOPIC—Early Events In Je
sus’ Life.
INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR
TOPIC—Lessons of Jesus’ Cldldhood
and Early Ministry.
YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT
TOPIC—The Opening Period of Christ's
Ministry.
Two methods of review are sug
gested :
I. Have the pupils go over the quar
ter’s lessons and bring in reports
which will picture Jesus as to His
deity, pity, courage, devotion, etc. This
should, be assigned the week before
and the reports should be written out
clearly und distinctly and restricted
to a certuln number of minutes, ac
cording to the size of the class and
tiflie allotted for the review.
■II. The Summary Method. This con
sists in a statement of the principal
facts and leading lessons. The follow
ing suggestions are offered:'
Lesson 1. That which Micah the
prophet foretold some 700 years be
fore and Gabriel announced to Mary
and Joseph took place in Bethlehem
and was made known to the shep
herds. When the shepherds had in
vestigated they went back praising
the Lord and telling the good tidings
to others. Those, who hear the Gospel
must tell it to others.
Lesson 2. Though Jesus Christ was
the Son of God, therefore divine, afcd
had taken upon Himself the human
nature, which the Holy Ghost had cre
ated, He developed as a normal human
being.
Lesson 3. While Jesus was absolute
ly sinless, He submitted to buptlsm,
which is a sinner’s ordinance, because
He took the, place of sinners. It was
an act of dedication of Himself to the
task of bringing in a righteousness
which was accomplished on the cross
of Calvary.
Lesson 4. Jesus was led into the wil
derness by the Spirit to be tested by
the power and subtlety of the devil In
order to demonstrate the reality of
the union of thq human and divine na
tures—In order that man might have
a real foundation upon which his faith
might rest in order to be saved. Christ
met and defeated Satan by the use of
the Scriptures.
Lesson- S. When John the Baptist
pointed out to his disciples the Lamb
of Odd, they left him and followed
Jesus. When they came to know Him
as the Messiah, they brought others
to Him. The natural thing for one to
do who has found Christ is to . bring
others to Him for salvation.
Lesson 0. Marriage was ordained by
God and the first wedding was sanc
tioned by His presence, Jesus Christ,
who was hourly about His Father’s
business, set a mark of honor upon
the mainspring of life by .gracing this
marriage feast wlthJHis presence. The
Redeemer of man thus lifted the ordi
nance of marriage to its proper dignity
and beauty. The design was to show
the divine glory.
Lesson 7. When Jesus, the Lord of
the temple, found it defiled, He drove
put the money changers and the ani
mals. Tq use the Lord's house as a
place of merchandise is to pollute it.
Because He was zealous for God He
could not rest while God’s bouse was
misused. *
Lesson 8. Though Nlcodemus was a
man of high station, a ruler among
the Jews, even a religious teacher, bp
needed to be regenerated before he
could see the Kingdom of God.
Lespon 9. Because Jesus’ supreme
business was to seek and to save the
lost He ‘‘must needs go through Sa
maria” to save the immoral woman
who came to Jacob’s well.
Lesson 10. Sickness of the nobleman's
son brought him to Jesus. Because
the Joy of seeing his son alive.

Weather Affecta Tumor a
That the growth of malignant tu
mors is related to the general weather
conditions and to sunlight In particu
lar lias been shown by investigators
in the Rockefeller Institute for Medi
cal Research. Drs.,W. H. Brown, L.
Pearce and O. M. Van Allen have had
a number of ntbbltir- ’suffering from
malignant tumors, under observation.-
A comparison of meteorological rec
ords and the growth af tumors in dis
eased rabbits revealed a striking co
incidence between the decrease of tu
mor growth and the periods of maxi
mum and minimum sunlight, that is,
in summer and winter seasons; while
the greater malignancy occurred at the
times of sudden and rapid changes In
the hours of sunshine a day. The lat
ter periods correspond roughly with
spring and fall of this year.

“puttinc up"~for winter
Every housewife likes a full fruit
closet; but some seasons find us lack
ing the favorite fruits
because they are' too
scarce and expensive.
Many times one may buy
in dozen lots from the
grocer at less cost than
the home canned product,
saving time and strength.
The fruit put up at home
is so satisfactory that It will con
tinue to be canned in most homes.
While apples are plentiful IS the
time to make Jelly and marmalades,
spiced apples, pickled apples, chutney
and various combinations with other
fruits.
Pickled Apples.—Take perfect crab
apples, wash and remove the blossom-
end and stenm until tender, then drop
into a boiling sirup, using two cupfuls
of sugar, one of vinegnr, n teaspoon
ful of cloves and a tablespoonful of
broken cinnamon in sticks. Cook un
til clear in the sirup. Place the fruit
in the cans and pour over the hot
sirup and seal. Have plenty of sirup
to cover.
Apple Jelly.—Cut apples Into quar
ters and nearly cover In a granite
kettle; cook slowly until soft. Drain
through a jelly bag and measure the
juice. Boll the Juice twenty minutes,
then add two-thirds as much sugar as
juice and boil live minutes. For spiced
npples and Jelly add one tablespoonful
of vinegar, one teaspoonful of cloves,
one-quarter teaspoonful of cinnamon,
and three-fourths of a cupful of sugar
for each cupful of Juice. Cook until
the mixture jellies.
Grape Jam.—Wash and stem three
pounds of grapes, removing the pulp
from the sklna^ Simmer the pulp five
minutes in a- covered saucepan, then
force through a sieve to remove tbe
seeds. Crush the skins, add the pulp
and one-half cupful of water. Bring
to the boiling point, stirring constant
ly, then cover and simmer slowly one
hour, {.ensure four cupfuls of the
fruit mixture, adding water to make
the fourth cupful. Put into a large
saucepan, add sugar and mix well.
SMr and bring to a vigorous boll for
one minute. Remove from tbe fire,
add commercial pectin, mix thorough
ly and pour Into sterilized Jars. When
cool seal as usual.
Rapid cooking is best; the. long,
slow simmering process which used to
be considered tbe only way is not now
regarded ns advisable. The. more
quickly tbe fruit is cooked, tbe clearer,
brighter and richer the color will be;
also more Important still the Qgllcate
flavor is preserved.
