Rev. Jim Hamlin and wife, Marj, have earned a well-
deserved retirement.
Popular Roberta
Pastor Retires
By Billy Powell
Rev. Jim Hamlin and wife,
Marj, have been residents of
Roberta for the past 32 years.
Both have recently retired—
Jim from the ministry and
Marj from Mercer University.
Rev. Hamlin has pastored
Methodist churches through
out the South Georgia
Conference for over 40 years.
Hamlin became very popular
in Crawford County when he
served as pastor of the
Roberta United Methodist
Church for 12 productive
years, from 1981 until 1993.
Hamlin, considered one of
the conference’s best preach
ers, has been loved by every
congregation he served. His
sermons are consistently
interest-provoking, inspira
tional, and highly anticipated
week after week. Not only
has Hamlin married and
preached the funerals of
numerous Crawford
Countians, more importantly,
he has led many to the Lord.
Earlier this year, Rev.
Hamlin was called from
retirement to serve as interim
pastor at the Fort Valley
United Methodist Church
until a replacement pastor
could be assigned. Its regular
pastor, due to an injury, was
forced into medical retire
ment. The new minister
comes on board effective 12
June. After preaching his
concluding message in Fort
Valley last Sunday, Rev.
Hamlin retired for the second
time. Being an outstanding
minister in great demand, his
prospects of again being
called out of retirement are
great.
Hamlin’s wife, Marj,
recently concluded a 41-year
career at Mercer University
where she served as a profes
sor in the Mercer School of
Engineering. There she dis
tinguished herself by pio
neering the Department of
Technical Communications.
We thank the Hamlins for
their many lasting contribu
tions to the Roberta
Community and wish for
them the choicest of God’s
blessings in their new ven
ture in life.
