AN OLD PAY ROLL
Capt. Sharp's Cempaay, Florida Volunteers,
• (or the Indlaa War, 1836.
The following transoript of an old
and interesting document was found
by Mr. O. F. Sheppard's 12-year-old
daughter, May, on the street near hia
residence one day last week.
It is drawn off on the leaves of an
old time-book, and the writing is
very clear and legible, evidently not
many years old.
Besides being interesting as a relie
of the Creek war of 1880, (sixty-two
years ago) it contains the names of
many of the fathers and grandfathers
of the men who are now among the
most honored citizens of Berrien.
They are family names for this
eouiity, and the Gazette advises their
descendants to eat out this roll and
preserve it as a family memento.
The county of Berrien was then
Lowndes, with old Troiipcvillo
tho county-site. It should be a mat
ter of no small pride to their descend
ants that so many volunteers nf this
Florida company were from what is
nnw Berrien, attesting, in no small
degree, to their bravery nnd daring;
