A Rouil>( Potato.
Mr. M. Walker brought in, Tues
day morning, the giant sweet potato
of the season. It was of tho yam
variety, and weighed even nine
pounds. It was 23} inches around
the middle, and 30} inches around
the ends.
Considering that this potato had
over a montli to grow yet, and might
have been nearly double its present
size, we think Mr. Walker has
just claim to the blue ribbon.
Speaking of the reoent republican

Hi " ‘ """""
The first printing press ever made
in Georgia is now being put up in
Afthburn by Mr. W. T. Christopher
who is the inventor and builder.
The press is operated by steam and
is to be built entirely of Georgia
material. The lumber in it is yellow
pine from the mills of J. S. Betts &
Co., and tho iron work comes from
Macon, Fort Valley and Atlanta.
He is intending to print advertise
ments on boxes, barrels, etc. Ilis
intention is to use thousands of feot
of tho odd sized boards now burned
in tho slab pits of Ashburn and other
mills of Georgia as refuse for sign
work.—Advance.
