INTEREST fi*TE AND TIME OF
LOAN. ‘
By law the interest rate must not
be greater than S per cent and, at
the present time, -farmer* ore borrow
ing their money for 6 per cent. This
cheap money Is welcomed by the farm-
era for before the associations were
established they had been paying from
4 to- 1*T'*T MnVf&y "UiiIr"Eabney. and
then loans could only be made in some
Instances for short periods of time.
The farm-loan act provides that
money may be borrowed for any period
from 6 to 40 years. In case the farm
er makes a loan for forty years and,
wishes to pay ft up sooner he Has the
privilege of doing so at any regular
time of Interest payment after the flTe
years have elapsed. He cannot borrow
for less than five years. Experience
has proven that, the former generally
wants to extend the time of his loan
as long as possible.
The Interest of the loon must be
paid regularly and together-with It a
part of the pj^ncipal In order that the
loan may be fully retired In a given
time.' The longer the period of time
over Which the loan extends the
amallerMhe amount of principal paid
-ach year.
The most convenient and popular
period of time for which to nme *
loan In some sections Is 3« years. By
paying six per cent of the principal
each year the borrower pays the an
nual Interest charge of 6 per cent and/
1 per cent on the principal- which to
tires the loon completely at the end
of the thirty-six years.
GREAT IMPETUS GIVEN TO
FARMING.
The added capital and the security
of the long loan, which cannot be re
called os long as the Interest pay
menta are met, have given a decided
ImpeUu to fanning. Tbs money bor
rowed Is being spent In purchasing
Improved machinery, laying dreln tile,
