Prof. Lewis Brings Back Nine Choice
j Registered Cattle from Purchas-
j ing Trip ta , North Georgia.
I Prof. S. L. Lewis, of the Second Dis
trict Agricultural. School, returned Fri
day from North Georgia bringing with
him for the school farm nine bead of
registered Jersey csttle, a bull, six cows
and two heifers.
1 The bull is Combination's Nobles of
Oakland—son of Nobles of Oakland,
110,000 English bull, considered by
many to be the greatest of all Jersey
bulls. Dam is the great cow Combina
tion—one of the greatest of the breed.
Faultlessly made up and considered by
experts as the greatest bull in the state.
Ordinarily such a bull would sell for a*
hove the price paid for him.
I The cows are well bred and are good|
| milkers. The two heifers carry a lot of
the blood of the most famous Jerseys. I
Prof. Lewis, accompanied by Prof. W.
H. Howell, dairy expert at the State
College of Agriculture attended the
Jersey sale at Acwortb Saturday of last (
week and saw 48 bead, mostly calves
and yearlings, sell at an average of
$218. Not buying any there they went
to Douglasville and bought from different
breeders around there.
The school proposes to build up one
of the best Jersey herds in the state and
hojtes to be instrumental in improving
the dairy cattle of this district through
tin* sale of stock to students and others.
This car of cattle cost considerable j
money hut will be paid for largely by |
the sale of some of the cattle now on |
hand.
This summer and fall a great deal of j
work will be done on buildings, fences i
and pastures for the cattle and hogs. |
The school proposes to make the breed-1
iug of live stock a special feature. Oth
er farm buildings are to be constructed. I
A saw mill is now cutting u good lot of
lumber and Profs. Thrash and Ether-!
