Five Counties of Tift, Ben £1111, Ber
rien, Irwin and Codk.
Dr. W. K. White returned Saturday
night from Louisville, (la., to take up
his work a. U. S. Veterinary Inspector
for the District composed of five coun
ties of Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin, Cook and
Berrien.
Dr. White had been engaged in this
work hem for two yean but was trans
ferred to Louisville a few week, ago
when the failure of Congress to pass
the necessary appropriation left no funds
to continue the work in thl, section.
So well pleased were the people here
with Dr. White and hi. work that a
mass meeting was held at the courthouse
two weeks ago for the purpose of peti
tioning the government to send him back
nnd raising funds to carry on the work
of eradicating bog cholera in thia sec
tion. At this meeting Dr. Babnsen,
State Veterinarian, was present, and
promised that Dr. White would be sent
back. The other four counties co
operated with Tift in raising the neces
sary funds. ■

lighted to get baek to Tifton and hi.

him back, it was felt, that to discon
tinue the fight against bog cholera at
this critical stage of the development of
stock industry in this section would

two years with the U. 8. Cavalry, sta
tioned at Honolulu, Hawaii, * arrived
Monday on a visit to hla broiler, Mr.
A. M. Lee, of Tifton. He baa |>een re
cently transferred from Honolulu to Mc
Allen, Texas, and stopped over In Tif
ton on hi, way to hia former home in
Chillicothe, Ohio, having thirty days’
leave of absence.
Prvt. Lee talk, interestedly of his
two years' experience in the Hawaiiai
Islands and expects to be in service
another year.

Mr. It. B. Hamlin, who waa in from
the Salem community Saturday morning
told us of the big time they had at
Salem schoolhouse at the box supper
Friday night
Mallary Bishop acted as auctioneer,
and he worked like a veteran, the total
proceeds being $00 for the school im
provement fund. A' cake voted Misi
Kate Cox as the most popular girl
brought $18.40.
MINNIE BELL SIMMONS.
Minnie Bell Simmons, the 11-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben. Sim
mons, died at their home near the I. A.
C. plant Friday morning about 3 o’
clock.
The funeral waa held Saturday about
noon with interment in the Parkinson
cemetery, about two miles southeast of
Tifton, Itev. O. W. Durden conducting
the services.
